We had limited time time spend so we took a bike cab which only allowed us to hit some of the high spots. We had a knowledgeable guide who pointed out several spots of interest, especially related to The Dakota and famous residents. We stopped for photos at the lake - be sure to walk through the tunnel to see some lovely tiled ceiling and good view of the boathouse. We stopped again at the John Lennon memorial. The strawberry fields area is designated as a quiet zone and it was noticeable. In a city of millions of people and streets jammed with traffic and honking horns, the silence was a wonderful opportunity to enjoy a meditative moment.

I didn't get to see the skating rink nor enjoy a stroll or stop by Tavern on the Green but was glad we took the pedi-cab due to time constraint. My suggestion is allow as much time as you can and walk it if able.
Note: there are roads accessible by car through the park, they are closed on weekends part of the year and were going to be closed during the week later in the summer.

Hire bikes nearby and cycled the full 7 mile lap. A few inclines if your not that fit but you get a few great speedy downhill sections. Only gripe people seem to do there own thing not keeping within the designated cycling areas. Needs more stops for buying drinks. Great day out for the family

My first impression of Central Park was that it was huge, yet quite ordinary. Coming from Europe, I had seen many parks that were richer, more »blooming« and with more modern playgrounds for children, so I was a little disappointed because I had expected something extraordinary. Nevertheless the park does have features that make it attractive. First there are the remnants of the once hilly island that Manhattan used to be: large rocks of various forms. Manhattan got its name from the Lenape tribe which called it “Manna hata”, meaning “island of many hills”. Although the Central Park is as flat as entire Manhattan is more or less. Yet the rocks make it slightly hilly and varied. Another feature that I just loved were the benches, donated to the park by well-known inhabitants of New York. They were simple, yet seemed classy… As a Beatles fan I also enjoyed it a lot to have a photo made of me and my then four-year-old son in the Strawberry fields. For sporty people there are plenty of bike- and roller-blading lanes, as well as playgrounds of different kind.
It was a charming afternoon in this huge green of NYC.
