We had limited time time spend so we took a bike cab which only allowed us to hit some of the high spots. We had a knowledgeable guide who pointed out several spots of interest, especially related to The Dakota and famous residents. We stopped for photos at the lake - be sure to walk through the tunnel to see some lovely tiled ceiling and good view of the boathouse. We stopped again at the John Lennon memorial. The strawberry fields area is designated as a quiet zone and it was noticeable. In a city of millions of people and streets jammed with traffic and honking horns, the silence was a wonderful opportunity to enjoy a meditative moment.
I didn't get to see the skating rink nor enjoy a stroll or stop by Tavern on the Green but was glad we took the pedi-cab due to time constraint. My suggestion is allow as much time as you can and walk it if able.
Note: there are roads accessible by car through the park, they are closed on weekends part of the year and were going to be closed during the week later in the summer.
