Owner description: The final resting place of President Ulysses Simpson Grant and his wife, Julia, is the largest mausoleum in North America. It testifies to a people's gratitude for the man who ended the bloodiest conflict in American history as Commanding General of the Union Army and then, as President of the United States, strove to heal a nation after a civil war and make rights for all citizens a reality.

“A must for History Buffs”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 9 July 2014

This memorial, is in a part of NYC that few visitors ever come to. It's in a beautiful setting, and away from the maddening crowds. It was amazing how big it was, much like the memorials in Washington DC. If you are a history buff, it is worth the effort to go see it.

“Worth the trip to the Upper West Side”

The Memorial is near Columbia University, Riverside Church and Saint John's Cathedral; you should see all. Take the 1 train to 116th Street and walk around, having a map may be useful to aid in your walk.

“Impressive”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 6 July 2014 via mobile

We enjoyed this with our kids as they competed the junior ranger program that the park provides.

I honestly can say that, without the program, there would have been little for me but to look at the structure and be inspired by its size and architecture.

It's a beautiful place with an inspiring story, but you have to work to learn from what they have to offer.

While Grant is NOT buried here, his memorial is indeed impressive. It opens at 10, and is worth a quick visit. The park setting is wonderful, and don't miss the mosaic tiled benches that surround the memorial. They are truly unique.

“Beautiful”

This is a quiet park with a beautiful memorial. The memorial itself is huge. Small rooms with flags and murals on walls. Very nice.
