“A very well set art gallery”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 2 July 2014

It's a beautiful small art gallery, very intimate. the garden is beautiful, the history of the house itself is very fascinating. And the audio guide is easy to follow and is a very nice touch.
A must for art lover who visit NYC

“Beautiful, varied collection with great audio recordings”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 2 July 2014

Came here on a Wednesday evening around 4 PM and paid my $10 student admission. I opted for the audiobook since I had a couple of hours before closing and always enjoy hearing about each individual piece. It was GREAT idea because the audiophone allows you to type in the number of the work and provides a brief narrative about the artist, subject, technique, etc. I learned so much about the art and gained a better understanding of the varied and cohesive collection (art on the walls and architecture). I also saw a large group of people sketching so I signed up online to go two weeks from now (it's free!).

“Wonderful!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 2 July 2014

We loved the house, the art, and the proximity to Central Park. Would definitely recommend. Wished we could have seen more of the mansion.

“wonderful edited collection in an UES mansion”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 2 July 2014

This was a lovely collection in a beautiful old UES mansion. The gardens weren't open to the public but there was more than enough to see in the house itself. The Fragonard room is lovely as was the Parmigianino which was visiting. Sunday from 11-1 is pay what you want. I spent about 90 min although 60 min is probably adequate.

“one of my two favorite art galleries in the world”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 1 July 2014

Hint: Come on Sunday at 11am. It's "pay as you wish" between 11 and 1 every Sunday. Along with Mauritshuis in The Hague, the Frick ranks as my favorite art gallery. Why? Because every piece is a treasure, and the collection is small enough so that one is not overwhelmed, unlike the great art museums, including New York's Metropolitan.

I hesitate to single out any of the great works, but I always swoon when I see Holbein's Thomas More and Oliver Cromwell, and Bellini's St. Francis. But there is something for everyone's taste, and this is an excellent introductory gallery for younger folk. Set in beautiful mansion, it's easy to enjoy both the artwork and the ambiance.
