This is a real mansion the paintings hang on the walls. Beautiful furnishings and a lovely garden. Off the main tourist track.

A lot of visitors to New York, when thinking about its museums, call The Metropolitan and Natural History Museum to mind. However, the Frick Collection is a superb museum housed in a former private home. Go. You will be enchanted.

This is a first rate museum set in a turn of the century home on 5th avenue in NY. Frick's private collection in this setting is very entertaining and satisfying. I would go back.

Incredible collection of famous paintngs, sculptures, furniture and decorative arts, displayed in the opulent mansion home of the late Frick. There are many mansions to visit around the country from the Gilded Age...in Newport Rhode Island, etc, but none that also qualify as a museum with works of art on par with the great museums of the world. Similarly, there are many museums to visit, but none with the ambiance created by this opulent residence which was clearly once a home and not an institution.

Stroll by works by Rembrandt, Tiziano, Corot, in an intimate setting, not overwhelming in size. Excellent programs offered - Summer Nights (free) are exceptional with talks, ballet performances, free sketch, etc. So nice to see so many young people taking advantage of these offerings. The Frick is doing a great job of making art accessible to the younger generation.

Perfect location by Central Park at 70th street with a main entrance to the Park at 72nd street for those who want to combine a few hours of arts and culture with a row boat ride or fun with radio controlled sailboat or bike ride in the park afterwards.

Pay what you wish between 11am and 1pm on Sundays and get a free audioguide in the front hall.

A classic museum, not to be missed. More intimate than other museums, good on weekends when the larger museums are crowded.
