I remember the first time I set foot on 5th Ave. A friend dropped a group of us off at the Metropolitan Museum - Another must see, and after an entire day at the Met, we took on 5th Ave on foot. We crisscrossed our way to its very end, Washington Square - the neighborhood of Will Smith in I am Legend. On the way, we visited stores, shopped, dinned and stopped here and there for a break with a glass of wine, all the while admiring the beautiful architecture that this beautiful city has to offer, from contemporary to colonial. We contoured the Square picking up Broadway all the way to Battery Park where we saw the sun rise. In my opinion, this is the best way to see 5th Ave., walking its entirety to better absorb its eternal beauty. Later in life I read various books about my adopted city and learned the history of some of the buildings which still stands.
