We visited and of course it's very busy, not able to fully enjoy it as lots of work going on so narrow walk ways leading to lots of lines of people waiting yo walk, will come and try again once ann the improvement work is completed.

You need to experience Times Square at least once. It is everything mentioned in these reviews - loud, crowded, bright with lights. You've got to take it in and think about it being the "city that never sleeps."

There are some drawbacks. The characters who are seemingly everywhere expect tips if you take a photo with them (and they will walk towards you encouraging the photo.) There are other beggars and street performers trying to earn money, too. Just be aware of your surroundings and know what to expect. Yes, stores in Tines Square are expensive. It's NYC!! Also, I've heard not to take the bicycle "cabs," as they're a rip off.

Probably worth wandering through to see the signs. It's v busy and full of touts trying to sell you something, the shops there are pretty expensive but are open late in the evening. If you like getting your picture taken with cartoon characters, this is definitely the place

It's a busy intersection filled with one too many commercials. Sure it is iconic (certainly a great metaphore for the city and the epitome of american popular culture) and a must-see of sorts, but don't expect too much. Take a picture and move on. There are more interesting places to see in the city.
If your looking for discounted Broadway tickets, then it's a good idea to pop by around noon. Otherwise, go to a museum.

It's all that it's hyped up to be -bright, loud, bustling. At the end of the day though, it really is just a very crowded square with shopping and food. If you're looking for great atmosphere, NYC offers plenty of other options. We weren't really impressed with the place.
