Description: Rated as one of the NYC's Best Wine Bars by ZAGAT SURVEY, In Vino offers a cozy cave-like atmosphere, knowledgeable service, and well over one hundred unique and unusual wines culled from all over Italy. We are also known for our authentic, rustic Italian fare. Our meatballs and lasagna are among the best in the city, and our porcini ravioli in a truffle cream sauce can’t be beat. Check out our seasonal specials and our list of artisanal cheeses. Sundays also bring in a crowd for our select list of half-price bottles, and Mondays bring in cheeselovers for our $1 per slice night!

a calm oasis in the still somewhat gritty e. village. Nice cheese and cold meat selection for small plates or starters and a very helpful staff for navigating the extensive all Italian wine list. I also had the branzino special (whole fish grilled with thyme, leeks and lemon), which was very moist and tasty, with the recomended wine pairing, Costalupo Illuminati, a crisp, fruity white that went perfect with the fish.Went with a friend and now will definately go back soon with my wife.

Visited In Vino with my girlfriend, her teenage daughter, and her daughter's friend during a recent NYC "girl's weekend." When we asked the girls what their best time was from our trip, they said "dinner at Il Vino."
We were there early, (in order to make the 8:00 show at UCB Comedy Club) so we were the sole patrons at the very quaint restaurant - David and Giovanni were absolutely hospitable and gracious - at David's recommendation, we enjoyed a wonderful sparkling wine and nice conversation. Our table shared plates of bruschetta, pasta, and salad - everything was outstanding. One of the few restaurants that remind me of my visits to Italy.
A great little neighborhood - fabulous food - AND when my friend left her camera, they held it until we returned later that evening. (thank you!)
Seriously, the food is outstanding and the wine list exceptional.
Highly recommended!

I travel very frequently to New York to visit my boyfriend and each time we try out new restaurants. This time we decided on In Vino and made reservations for 9:15pm (it was the only time they had available) and were not seated for at least an hour. The place is very nice inside and feels homey and rustic but soooo small. We had no real waiting area so we stood by the door until seats were made available. The hostess offered to bring us menus so that we could begin placing our orders while we waited to expedite the service- which we declined.

It seemed they were rushing everyone since those who had finished eating and were just enjoying their glass of wine and talking were almost forced to finish up. There was no formal dress code for bartenders or waiters. At first we had no idea who the waiters were because they all had jeans and sneakers.

Once seated the appetizer we ordered was not actually offered on the menu so we went with the meatballs instead, which were delicious. There were two large meatballs and then once extra small, not very big for an appetizer but nonetheless tasty. The sauce was excellent and there was plenty of it. The bread was a little hard and not really a big deal.

The food took a long time to come out so we enjoyed an amazing bottle of wine while we waited. I have the ravioli which was amazing, the sauce is addicting, I wish they would have served me more! My boyfriend has the lasagna which was really good too, not very different from most decent italian places, but good.

No dessert for us, just a coffee that came with only one packet of sugar, we had to ask for more.

Overall, great location, great ambiance, great decoration, good food, mediocre service.
