“Great place to stay”
Reviewed 11 October 2013

We really enjoyed our stay at Upper Yorkville Suites. The owner/manager was fantastic, he was extremely friendly, helpful and welcoming. The room itself was large and decorated to a high standard. It was also very clean and a maid came in every day. We would definitely recommend staying there based on our experience.

This is a good alternative to staying in downtown Manhattan. Coming from a small UK town the area was a bit of a culture shock.

Spacious appartment with everything you need for a short stay. Subway stop just around the corner so easy to get downtown in 15 to 20 mins. You can also walk to the Guggenheim in a similar time.

A couple of nice restaurants nearby and a supermarket if you want eat in.

Only complaint was that the room service did not seem to work well. We were not supplied with milk top ups for breakfast and the room was not made up on Sunday.

We arrived at the apartment via the subway – the 103rd street station is less than 5 mins walk away. Our first impression was that this is quite a poor area and we felt a little uncomfortable. One of the owners, David showed us to the apartment and we asked if it was a safe area and he suggested it was as safe as any city area. We never saw any trouble or were bothered by anyone but we never felt comfortable in the area. Perhaps being middle aged we’ve lived in too many “edgy” areas of London over the past 20 years to crave this again. If I knew what the area was like I would not have booked this.

Which is a shame as the apartment is quite nice and furnished with all you need. The owner is very friendly and accommodating. Like almost anywhere in Manhattan the street its on is noisy but you get used to the noise and the air conditioning and ceiling fans lull you to sleep.

We appreciated the maid service to do a bit of tidying up and also re-stock the basket of breakfast cereals and bars provided by the owners. Toiletries provided were OK – liquid soap/shampoo/conditioner in the bath/shower and good supply of towels. TV OK but cable didn’t have much variety. DVD works.

I used the sofa bed and it was a bit thin but didn’t stop me sleeping. Also, there was no street noise in the living area.

Once we realised that 5 or so blocks south the area improved immensely we just did that and cut across to the park. In that sense if you’re OK with an inner city environment then it’s a good location and not that far from lots of restaurants and the museums

Here for a quick trip to the city over Xmas week- no rooms on any hotels close to what I could afford for family of 4- went on b&b.com and found UYVS- for 2 nights was $240 less than a hotel that would accommodate 4 and with a lot more space. Host David was great- very helpful- check in requires you to call ahead so he can meet you- neighborhood is a little sketchy and not much you can do here- however - Harlem is home to a ton of great restaurants-
Parking is street parking- David tells you where to park- we were able to park right across the street- free.

Would certainly stay here again.

With everything you need for breakfast supplied, PLUS coffee, it's a great place to sit & figure out where to head each morning.
I stayed for 3 nights in Nov 2011 over marathon weekend. The suites are a block from the subway & buses going past the door its an easy place to find any time of the day. Its in the lower parts of Harlem, so there is lots going on, but i felt safe as a single female - even getting off the subway at 9pm and walking by myself. I spent the majority of my 5 week stay in Harlem - its safer than many Australian places after dark!!

Very stylish suites with all the mods you need, soft towels, clean & comfy bed. The guys/managers are lovely, staff are friendly & helpful. Some great eats nearby (or delivered)

Yes this is NY - the city really does stay up all night. Noises come and go - the only way to avoid them is to book yourself into a room above the 15th floor of any building (but who goes to NY for a sleepy quiet holiday?) The sounds of the city remind you you're in one of the worlds best cities.

Room Tip: Ask for a room on an upper floor for a little more quiet (or pack ear plugs). They were replacing bl...

Stayed 3 nights in the Lexington and Fifth Avenue suites and have but compliments for the owners! The suites were so clean, we could have eaten off the floor! Very spacious, tastefully decorated and well equiped. Ample fluffly towels in the bathroom and a firm mattress, ensuring a home-away-from-home feeling. We really appreciated the milk, cereal, tea, and coffee provided daily for guests, as well as the full-size fridge. We were able to keep bottles of water and drinks cold to take away with us as we toured the city. The inn is situated in a vibrant ethnic neighborhood near Central Park and museums with easy access to the subway. We drove in from Canada and easily found parking on 104th Street where we left our car for the duration of our stay. The inn keeper, Olga, welcomed us with a typical no-nonsense New Yorker attitude that we really appreciated. Do not be put off by the outside of the building - the suites are impeccable!

Room Tip: Rooms on the 1st floor facing 3rd Avenue can be a little noisy on Friday or Saturday nights when eve...

Stayed at the apartments at the beginning of June 2012 and couldn't fault them. Situated just far enough outside the main hustle and bustle of the city that anything was easy to get to with a subway ride which a station is virtually on your doorstep. NYC center was a 15 min ride oneway while the Yankee Stadium was a 15 min ride the other way. The North/East side Central park was a 5-10 min walk away.

The apartments were clean and well stocked with breakfast cereals and cold drinks and if it didn't have what you wanted there are plenty of food stores nearby.

As everyone has said before in previous reviews the owners were only to pleased to help and made our stay far much easier and enjoyable.

If I had to fault one thing it is the noise of the air conditioning units. Had to have them on full blast as tempretures reached into the 90's. So if you are visiting in mid summer be prepared for this. Got used to it after the first night though as NY does tire you out.

So if you are looking for a better option than staying in the main part of NYC, you dont want to pay fancy hotel prices and you want to see a different part of NY culture then this is the place to be. ....9.5/10

Room Tip: We stayed on the top floor (4th) so there are a lot of stairs that didnt bother us but if it does as...
