I have reviewed Larchmont before. We stayed again in late May, 2013, this time in a central room with 2 outside windows, 5th floor, east side of the building (I have forgotten the room number). This room was next to the shower room, but we never heard it as I had worried. In fact, the showers on this floor were both much more roomy than lower floors. We would still prefer either the front room or the room at the rear of the building, but this one was OK. The continental breakfast is a huge plus. We brought along a jar of peanut butter to fill out the meal. Another tourist from Australia had a jar of Vegemite. During our stay, we also met other tourists from Germany, Italy and Russia.

The Larchmont is extraordinarily good. It is budget level priced and certainly doesn't feel like it. The only downside to staying here is the shared bathroom//toilet. Otherwise it feels like you're staying in a hotel. It is a beautiful building and the staff are helpful and the rooms are good. It is in a great location for the Village, 5th Avenue and underground stations. We stayed in two North America hostels after this and there was no comparison which could be made in terms of value.

Room Tip: There is a lift- it doesn't matter

This is a nice, relatively small hotel in a great location just a short walk from washington park square. W4 subway is a short walk away with direct A line subway to JFK. Lots of nice places to eat and drink close by. The only issue here for me was the mosquitos from the neighbours garden pool. Keep room windows closed and use air con. Would also spray on some insect repellent at night when sleeping. I have stayed here a few times & will return again.

If you like living close to the village this is a good choice. I did not find any cheaper places with this location. The street is quiet, there are subway stations within a few blocks and lots of pubs, cafes and restaurants nearby. The hotel is a bit old and tired. My room was fine, bed was all right and the shared bathrooms were clean but very small. The a/c was loud but working well, there was a fan and it was possible to open the window. My biggest irritation was the wifi, it was very sporadic and slow, I had to go to the reception area to get a good connection.

I stayed here for the third time. Its a really good hotel for the value. The rooms are a bit old. The shared bathrooms are very basic and could use a renovation. The included breakfast is served on plastic plates and cups and sort of unhealthy but tasty. Nothing fresh. We always had breskfast in a nearby Cafe. It's a great place to stay if you plan to be on the road a lot. The location is awesome and the staff very friendly and helpful. Great value for money!!!

Located in a quiet street in the Greenwich village. Rooms small but relatively clean with a sink. Shared toilets and showers are clean. Honestly this was my first experience staying in a hotel with shared bathrooms, so I was relieved when I found them clean. My only complaint was the toilets have no sink to wash hands, you had to go back to your room to do so. The shower tub on the 3rd floor was very narrow, and can be a serious challenge to bigger sized people.

They always restock the room with cute little bags of toiletries and slippers hat you could bring to the bathroom. They left a new toiletries bag in the room during housekeeping even when the previous one was still hanging in the room unused.

Breakfast provided in a basement room, with limited selection of pastries and toasted breads, coffee, tea and juices, enough to start your day. Front desk had comfortable sofas to relax and read newspapers. There is a shared computer and printer which you can use to surf the Internet and print stuff.

Location not exactly in the thick of action, but the Greenwich village area was quiet. Subway a few blocks away, and cheap cafes catering to the NYU crowd litter the area. A great and cheap place to stay in NY.

Booked last minute for one night and I was looking for an inexpensive hotel. Found the Larchmont on tripadvisor and went for it. This is not a luxury hotel by any stretch of the imagination but it is clean, comfortable, and very well located, and you'd probably be hard pressed to find a hotel in New York at these prices. The room was small but that wasn't a problem since I was really only planning on being in there to sleep. The shared toilets were clean, and I never found them occupied. Breakfast was somewhat spartan and disappointing but there are tons of places nearby to get a bite and this wasn't a big deal.
