“The Good and the Bad”
Reviewed 2 June 2014

I stayed here for one night with my gf. I have both positive and negative experience. Let me start off with the negative experience.

The night-shift front desk personnel was rude and did not want to be interrupted. I understand that he was training another personnel, but it is also his job to be helpful. It was like ~1am and water was draining extremely slow in the shower. Let me be clear that this problem should never happened at the first place. Anyway, I went to the front desk to report this problem. However, the front desk personnel did not want to be interrupted and simply told me to dial 0. This treatment was unacceptable, especially I was already at the front desk. I expect Omni's staffs to be more professional than telling guests to dial 0 for problems that should have never occurred at the first place. In frustration, I ended up going back to my room and dialed 0. The maintenance personnel came within 15 minutes. He fixed the slow shower drain problem by pulling out ridiculous amount of hair from the drain. This routine maintenance should have done periodically so that guests like me do not have to stay up to wait for problems to be fixed. This event made the stay quite a disappointing experience.

The rest of the stay was relatively good. Check-in and check-out were fast, and the staffs were friendly. The morning beverages was nice, but the staffs did forget the orange juices initially. The gym was good, but keep in mind that dumbbells only go up to 50lbs. Location is awesome. It is next to MoMA and only a short walk to Times Square.

Overall, I would say this hotel deserves a 5, but only after it does a better job on routine maintenance and keeping all of its staffs at certain professional level.

Stayed here in mid May and thought the room was ok nothing that says wow as the view was lacking and being on the 10th floor was a bit loud but then again we werent in the hotel during the daytime so I was ok with it. The room was a bit dusty around the tv but otherwise clean. Great amenities in the room, staff was great! everyone was friendly and eager to help you with anything you needed from concierge to room service to housekeeping to bell man! The hotel is obviously a beautiful new york landmark and super close to everything. (walking distance to rockefeller, times square and central park) I signed up for their Loyalty membership (signing up is easy they just need your email) and you get free coffee every morning which was really good and free in room wi-fi. My only negative about the hotel is that the in-room dining wasnt good at all and for such a hotel i would expect their food to be much better!
All in all it is a good hotel in a great location but if i am back in new york i would rather try a new hotel for the price i paid for this hotel.

Room Tip: if you want a quiet room you will be facing a courtyard otherwise most street facing rooms could be...

Great hotel. Rooms are good size especially for NYC, with upscale feel. Location convenient to both East side and West side activities such as theater and shopping. This location if very convenient to subway Pleasant and responsive staff.

I have stayed at a number of different hotels in Manhattan over the last two years looking for a place that would deliver on a number of levels and at, for Manhattan, a reasonable price. I think I may have found the optimal blend. the Omni Berkshire is ideally located in mid-town Manhattan between Madison and Fifth Ave. Unlike many mid town locations this site is quiet. The hotel staff is friendly, the room clean and roomy for Manhattan, and the decor is a nice blend of classic and contemporary. The nine foot ceilings with heavy molding are offset by contemporary closet built-ins, desk and chair. There are large buttons on the thermostat that can be found easily at night, and the HVAC system is quiet and unobtrusive, not going on and off with a loud whirl that you hear at so many places. We asked for a quiet room and that is exactly what we got -- we faced inside away from the street, and slept like babies; another big plus for a Manhattan hotel. There were ample outlets for electronics. We rec'd complimentary beverages delivered to our door in the AM at the time the door tag we left asked for them to be delivered (you need to sign up for free as an Omni member to receive this perq). We even appreciated that the clock in the room was set to the correct time -- how rare is that?

Room Tip: Ask for a quiet room and they will certainly try to accomodate.

This is the second stay at this hotel. I find the location is great if you like shopping on 5th Ave and walking distance to Time Square. Also it is only a few blocks to Grand Central Station. The staff are always polite and helpful and the rooms a quiet and spacious for New York.
The wifi was free in the rooms and lobby (had to subscribe to be a member of Omni Club). The beds are comfortable and bathrooms are modern with good water pressure. I find at this hotel they make sure of the little things are taken care of and customer service is of a high quality. I really could not find any real faults with the hotel and would definitely come back.

Room Tip: Get a corner room it has more space.
