“Not for everyone!”
Reviewed 6 May 2012

Casablanca is a small, modest hotel 1/2 block off Broadway in the heart of the Times Square area. I mistook the location, I thought the hotel was a few blocks away from Times Square, or would never have booked it. We stayed one night. Obviously it's not the hotel's fault we didn't grasp how close it is to the dirty, loud, tourist area but I wish I'd known.
They offer a lot of perks like wine and cheese and continental breakfast. The premium king we had was quiet, very small, with a combo bath/ shower and just kind of shabbily decorated, with a grey carpet, gold bedspread, green tiles in the bathroom, not stylish. Trying for Casablanca feeling, not quite making it. It felt tired and second rate to me.
We paid $360 and frankly I think it was a very poor value. We usually stay at On The Ave, which is about the same price and I think a much nicer hotel.

Dear jdavis,

It breaks our heart as we would like to be the perfect hotel for everyone but in fact, you are absolutely right. Our hotel is not for everyone. Just like boutique clothing shop that only has a curated collection for people who like a particular style of clothing, boutique hotels differ from standard cookie cutter hotels by offering a unique atmosphere for a particular taste of traveler. We actually have four very different styles of hotels in other locations in New York and perhaps one of them would have been a much better fit for you. We encourage all travelers that after you visit TripAdvisor, please go to the hotels website. We do all that we can on our website to authentically show and describe the location, offer ample photos and room layouts and square footage details. A few minutes can really help clarify what the hotel is like and if it is right for you. If you like a more contemporary style, we have that at Hotel Giraffe in the Flatiron district or the Library Hotel which is just a few blocks east of Times Square. If you favor the traditional elegance of a country French style classic, the Hotel Elysee is in one of the most enviable location in the city, on 54th Between Park and Madison Avenues. But for some, there is no greater luxury than to step out your door and be mere steps from the lights of Broadway. For the guests that do appreciate the more rustic, unpretentious, home away from home atmosphere we provide, as you can see by the previous reviews it is very well received by many. As a matter of fact, we have received so many compliments on our bathroom décor that we have even been told guests have done their home baths to match the Casablanca Hotel style. I am sorry we were not your cup of tea, but if you liked the friendly service and the perks, I would be glad to help you arrange a stay in one of our other HKHotels on your next visit to New York, Please do not hesitate to contact me if I can answer any questions or be of service in any way.

Sincerely,
John Taboada

This hotel is spotless. You won't be disappointed. Ideal location, attentive staff, rooms are tastefully decorated. Wouldn't look for another hotel when returning to the city. This is our #1 choice.

My boyfriend and I stayed at the Casablanca hotel 26 April 2012 for 6 nights and I couldn't be happier with our choice. We wanted somewhere just off Times Square and booked this following the great ratings on this site. It wasn't any more expensive than the Hiltons etc but looked more cosy and welcoming with slightly larger rooms than is typical for the central hotels, plus the cheese and wine evenings were tempting!

The hotel itself is fairly small and boutique like, it is decorated really nice, lots of warm colours and very clean. First impressions were it looked grand but also warm and inviting and cosy. The staff were fantastic - always helpful and very friendly, especially Daniel who gave us a few restaurant recommendations. The room was a good size, clean with a fairly big marbled bathroom. The only things missing was storage space (mainly drawers) for clothing. Our room (608) didnt have a great view but we were hardly in the room anyway. Hotel was fairly quiet, you can hear noise outside but we took earplugs so it wasn't a problem!

My favourite part of the hotel was the lounge - very big, lots of comfy chairs, free internet access and 24hr refreshments. Between 5-8pm every night there was red/white wine, prosecco, popcorn, veg, pastries, dips, cheese, olives. Really nice touch to unwind for a while! Only went to breakfast once there was pastries, cereals, toast and orange juice.

Overall, I'm super happy with the hotel, the room, the staff and the facilities. I like to try new hotels/trips but if I go to New York again I will definately come here as you hear stories about other expensive hotels such as tiny, dirty rooms and I wouldn't want to take that chance.

The diner next door is fantastic food, I'd recommend looking through the magazines in the room for food recommendations that was handy. Generally the "chains restaurants" like Bumba Gump Shrimp, Hard Rock Cafe etc are not as good in terms of quality and value for money than the diners or independent restaurants. We didnt get the chance to go to a steakhouse but we were recommended Benjamins Steakhouse by Daniel, I then read on the airlines magazine that this is one of the top 10 steakhouses is USA! Gutted!

charming, peaceful, family-like intimacy, oasis of calm (after a busy day of sightseeing), comfortable room, superb bed, outstanding service, friendly staff, spotlessly clean, good price (for nyc). a big plus: tasteful room decoration, almost no kitsch.
all in all: a very satisfying experience. felt very much at home.
i'll certainly be back!

We arrived after midnight and I let staff know before hand that our flight would be late--the beer(hubby's thing) was frosty upon our arrival, as advertised --despite our late arrival!

We used their driver service from Newark Airport... some confusion initially as we got to the airport--but when we met up with the driver, AJ,
he was friendly, very communicativewith a great sense of humor-- he drove us from airport to hotel, and to our surprise, was also there to take us back to airport after our 2 day stay in NYC.

Wonderful, friendly hotel staff--always ready to assist yet not at all intrusive.
We stayed in a standard room king room--smallish as to be expected in boutique type hotels-- decorated 'Casablanca' style--generously sized bathroom with window for fresh air--yay!

Was within short walking distance of theaters(we went to Majestic for Phantom, and Gershwin for Wicked(omg! bring tissues to blot those tears!:)Totally wowed by both performances).. hotel location is ideally located smack dab in the middle of Time Square and convenient for broadway show lovers.

Among many choices for dining--there's an excellent Italian eatery attached: Tony's Di Napoli Restaurant.Tables are close together so sharing elbow space with other patrons (mouthwash and/or mints etc)--but we enjoyed chatting with a nice couple also visiting NYC as a layover to their trip abroad. Our server was very friendly--for the dessert, hubby and I shared the New York cheesecake--very light(we wanted something light-- our server recommend it--it's whipped and very flavorful! YUM!
Also a nice breakfast place attached to the other side of the hotel!

I can keep writing..but will stop. Just look at the reviews.
Those 5 balls are 100% deserved!

Enjoy your stay at Casablanca Hotel--we did! When we visit again, we will definitely return!
Thanks to all at Casablanca! Was such a nice peaceful retreat from the intensity that NYC can be!:)

PS: Very Romantic, too!:)

We stayed at the Casablanca for 5 nights. The service was exceptional -- from the desk personnel to the bellman hailing a cab. Our room was small, but we spent our down time lounging and reading newspapers in Rick's Cafe, which serves a lovely Continental breakfast, plus wine and cheese in early evening -- and it's open 24 hours for coffee, tea, and cookies. The location is at Times Square -- which is great for theatre buffs. Given the hotel's location, our room was surprisingly quiet.

Room Tip: Try for a larger room than the "Cozy" if you'll be spending much time in your room.
