“Wonderful boutique hotel right on Times Square”
Reviewed 26 January 2014

Stayed at this wonderful hotel with 2 of our friends, and at their recommendation and it was absolutely wonderful. From the front desk to the bellhops, the cleaning personnel to the waitresses at the breakfast, happy hour and late snack, they were all so warm and personal and seemed happy to be there to help the travelers. Can't wait to get back to New York and stay here again.

Room Tip: I don't think you could find a bad room in this hotel.

My wife and I spent 4 days here on our honeymoon. The room was beautiful. Entering the hotel felt like stepping out of the chaos of NY and into a calm inner sanctum.

The room was decorated tastefully and the bathroom was beautiful. Everything, right down to the toiletries and the manner of the staff, was fantastic.

When we return to New York in the future it's hard to imagine we'd go anywhere else.

location great. on w43rd street and 20 feet away from times sq. also remarkably quiet given its location. All staff were very friendly and made time to speak to us. The complimentary wine and cheese each evening was a nice touch. Other major chain hotels I've stayed in in NYC charge the same but provide much smaller rooms. Whilst not huge this was the largest room I've stayed in for this price in times square. Casablanca/morocco theme to the hotel was good and again made it different from the major chains. Can imagine that for new years eve celebration it would be the ideal place to stay. Dining and bar options next to hotel also very good- small belgian bar near it shows prem league football for those that can't miss their fix

The Casablanca has to be one of the best value hotels in the city. It is adjacent to Times Sq in W43rd and handy for restaurants, theatres and all of the main attractions. The hotel is a welcome oasis from the noise of the city whilst allowing you to stay in the centre. The quality of the rooms is superb, the staff are very attentive and are genuinely committed to making your stay a positive experience; nothing is too much trouble. The afternoon inclusive cheese and wine reception is a really good touch as it allows you to unwind after a busy day shopping and sight seeing, better than some I've stayed in recently. It is small but well appointed and not too many children, those who were there were very well behaved, but there was no "kids club" (not that I'm complaining). Room size for us (husband and wife) was not a problem but a bit on the small size if you had a lot of luggage. I will certainly stay there again!

Staff top to bottom were very accommodating. The wine reception and breakfast were both a nice treat after a day touristing around NYC. And you just can't beat the location, for seeing NYC sights! We'll be back.

We stayed just before New Years - to stay over New Years you need to book before March/April I believe and I get that it would be the ONLY way to see the ball drop without having to wear a nappy and freeze for 12 hours so I highly recommend the Casablanca for that option.

Great, friendly staff but they didn't know which of the two rooms we booked was which so they put out teenage daughters in the big room with the lovely heart of flowers on the bed and my wife and I in the smaller room (they are all very very very very small rooms but you can literally throw a rock onto Times Square so it is a location thing). We were only in for 2 nights so not worth switching but you kind of expect better for the price.

We also had a mix up at checkout which was largely my fault so no demerits for them but I would advise closely reading their confirmation letter as ours said they were taking the balance in October and what with the flood of cash hitting the card that was assumed to have happened - turns out that was only if we were staying over New Year's. My mistake for not reading the fine print but probably would help if their confirmation letters did not have irrelevant information in them to confuse busy customers.

Overall a nice boutique hotel, the drinkies are nice, etc. but having stayed in a few it was nothing special and very expensive for the room size, etc. I would go back if I wanted to be in Times Square for New Year's but otherwise not.

Dear Fairway Smooth,

Thank you for staying with us and thank you for your candid feedback. We’re sincerely sorry about the mix-up of your rooms. Thanks to your feedback we are now able to see where we need to enhance our communication at the front desk to avoid a repeat occurrence. We have shared this story not just at our hotel but our sister properties as well. We want to show our staff how something that may seem like a small oversight, like not clearly communicating to a family which room is for which family member, can overshadow all the other efforts that were made in advance to make a our guests stay special. We truly apologize for this.

In regard to the payment issue, we do use one of the most popular and advanced online booking engines available. However, the technology still has some limitations. The guarantee policy that automatically displays to the guests during the booking process and again on confirmation is based on the date of arrival. As the closest hotel to the New Years Eve Ball Drop, we do need to ask for prepayment from those guests celebrating New Years Eve with us. We did not think it would be fair to ask the same requirement from all guests arriving that week, not staying on New Year’s Eve. That is why we had to write the policy for both possibilities on the booking engine and on the confirmation letter. You are right; we should ideally be able to give a more customized policy statement, and we will be prompt to do so when the technology advances.

We are so glad you did enjoy our location, staff, and amenities. If value is a factor, we hope that you will give us another chance at a time that is more affordable. Here is a tip for all of our fellow TripAdvisor members: for the best value on travel to NYC, please keep in mind that January/February and July/August are the months with the lowest rates. https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10152167541495295&l=a705694fc1

We hope you do decide to stay with us again and when you do, please contact me personally so that I may have the opportunity to ensure everything is perfect for you and your family. We welcome any additional questions or comments you or any of the TripAdvisor readers may have. Please feel free to contact me personally if I may be of any assistance.

Sincerely,

John Taboada

The Casablanca Hotel is in an excellent location. It is steps from Times Square, but not noisy. Rooms are immaculate. The service is very personal, and the staff is friendly. The complementary breakfast is a plus, and I look forward to the wine and cheese in the afternoons . I would recommend this hotel to anyone visiting New York.
