Just returned from a 3 night stay at the Casablanca. As we arrived, greeted promptly by a staff member opening our taxi door and taking our luggage. The receptionist was professional and has us into our room quickly.

I've stayed in New York once before, so knew to expect rooms to be smaller than in some other American cities. The room was tastefully decorated. Bed and bedding was very comfortable. Windows were insulated enough that we did not hear the traffic, although we also used the complimentary white noise machine to help insure a quiet evening. Our room was right next to the elevator and there was not much noise from it. Bathroom was clean and well appointed. Appreciated the robes and slippers. Also, appreciated the nightly turn down service.

A highlight for us was the 'cafe' on the 2nd floor. There were two evenings that we stopped by for cookies after being out. In addition, we took advantage of the breakfast and wine/cheese reception. What we appreciated the most was the treatment of my mother. You see, while my husband and I were staying here, my mother was staying at another hotel. They invited her to be able to join us for breakfast and for the wine/cheese reception. In fact, when she came that first morning, they recognized her and mentioned that she was the mom of our two guests in room 605. They treated her as well as they treated us!

The receptionist also provided a great dinner recommendation, that we are thankful we heeded.

Stay was wonderful, even up to the last minute as they hailed us a cab and wished us well with a desire that they would see us again...which they will.

We have very recently stayed here as a couple, along with our 5 months old baby.

Good Points
All the optional items we requested for our room were provided and in place upon our arrival.
As has been said many times, the location is outstanding.
The staff were, on the whole, friendly and attentive.
The cafe is handy being 24 hours and you don't really need a coffee machine in the room unless you can't be bothered to catch the lift down a maximum of 4 floors!
The place has character!
We used their recommended babysitter for one night and we were very happy with this service and with the babysitter.

Bad Points
The rooms are small and so are the queen sized beds, I found the bed too small as a person over 6 feet tall.
We asked for an upgrade due to the issues stated above, but rather patronisingly, we were told "well you booked this sized room, we are on Times Square, don't you know". This was stating the obvious and came across a bit too confrontational for our liking.
Note to staff, click a few keys on the keyboard next time, tell us, "sorry, we are very popular here and consequently we are fully booked." There would have been no issues then.
I asked for some ice for the room and was totally ignored at the first time of asking. OK, it was 7am and something of a bizarre request at that hour, but I had sore calves from running the Boston marathon so I was using the ice as an ice pack. The person on reception apologised profusely for failing to act on my first request but we never found out why.
The cafe was very busy some times at breakfast and wine tasting time and we struggled to find a seat with our baby. There were 2 people to a 4 seat table quite often but most people looked away rather than invite us over. Not everybody though, so thanks to our fellow guests that didn't treat us like lepers because we had a baby.

Conclusion
To be honest, we were expecting better from this hotel, it wasn't a disaster by any means, but having stayed at 3 other much larger hotels during our trip to the USA, the small hotel feel, friendly, personal service we were expecting from here was never forthcoming. Indeed, we were treated more attentively at the larger chains.

Room Tip: If you like a larger room (and bed), don't choose queen size

We just spent two nights at the Casablanca. If you are in NYC to go to plays, this is the perfect place to stay. It was close to the TKTs booth for discounted tickets, and close to Broadway theaters. We were able to go to three plays, spend time at the Museum of Modern Art and have nice dinners without having to worry about transportation. We didn't hear any street noises in our room. The continental breakfast was just right. We never had time to enjoy the wine and cheese. Maybe next time. The staff were all very helpful.

My wife and I stayed here this March for a St Patrick's Day holiday. We have stayed in Manhattan several times and this is the best hotel we have stayed in so far. Ten steps outside the front door and you are in Times Square but from inside the hotel you wouldn't know it. Because it is a smaller hotel the staff have time to attend to your needs. The room was large enough and was well cleaned. Nice extra touches were the chocolates on arrival and each night when the bed was turned down. I will never stay anywhere else in Manhattan and would recommend the Casablanca without reservation.
