I saw the bad reviews before arriving but decided to go for it anyway. Bad decision. The one positive is location. Literally steps away from the 1 train at 103rd. I could walk 15 minutes to Columbia. Now for the rest. After a long 5 hr drive arriving at midnight, we arrived very tired and looking forward to settling in. At the front desk, we were told that there was a flood and so two of us would need to share a room for the night. Which would have been fine except the rooms are very small and the "second bed" was effectively a cot that was set up between the bed and the window. To be honest, throughout my stay I was reminded of hotels I had been to in China - not developed big city eastern China, but rural western China - with the small room, constant noise from the hallway/someone else in the building using the water, and a tiny bathroom. Also the slow/inconsistent internet connection. Got up the next morning and was smugly told that our car had gotten a ticket. Not being from New York, it would have been nice to know that we needed to move our car by 7:30am. In fact, we were told nothing about parking when we checked in. In sum, if you're looking for a bed in the city, this place works. You can decide for yourself is $250 is a good price for NYC. If you're looking for anything more than the bare bones, I'd look elsewhere.

The room was clean and cozy if a little small in a great location right next to a Starbucks and metro station. Cleaners came every day and check-in/check-out nice a quick. Only issue was noise as we were in the first hallway close to bar/reception but no other complaints.

Room Tip: Don't pay for taxi. 103 st metro right outside.

Good location for the money, subway right outside.
On arrival 2.15 pm we were told check in was 3.00pm guaranteed. After an 8 hour flight we asked if we could get a drink from the bar and were told it doesn't open until 5 and we could get a drink from somewhere else!! Not a good start.
Returned at 3.00pm and told the rooms still weren't ready and they would be 5 minutes.
At 3.25 returned to reception to find the rooms were ready but they had neglected to walk 5 paces to tell us!!
We had booked two rooms a twin double and a ( superior ) queen room. They were two floors up a steep staircase with worn carpets as were the stairs at the entrance.
Rooms were clean no view from the rooms unless you consider looking at the back end of Starbucks a view. Beds and pillows were comfy enough although the mattress was a squeaky one in the queen room. Had no issue with hot water like some and the wifi was good when it worked and for the amount of time we spent in the room and the convenience of the subway it did a job and that's about all I can say.
A word of warning don't use the airport transfer service the hotel offered. It was considerably
more expensive than a cab we were promised a smart SUV and got a clapped out overcrowded minivan which picked up from so many hotels it made us late for our check in, a real rip off.
All in all this is no more than a two star hotel which looks like it gets a lick of paint every now and again.

Stayed for three nights. Convenient location , right by the subway on 103rd. Tired hotel in need of upgrade, but the beds, bathroom and linen are spotlessly clean (saving grace), from then on I would struggle to come up with any positives. Arrived early, had to wait for rooms....an hour later than the guaranteed check in. Couldn't get a drink while waiting - bar shut and no alternative offered. Lots of stairs to climb - no lift. Room to the rear of the building - no view or opening window. Noisy throughout the night. TV did not work. Inadequate storage - lived out of suitcase.

WORD OF WARNING

Don't be fooled by the scam of transport to the airport at the end of the visit. It is costly , cramped and took twice as long as the taxi coming in.....in fact making us late for check in!

First arrived and a bellman carried our bags up the first flight of stairs. Checked in and got upgraded for some reason to a queen room. Reception staff were friendly and helpful and always said hello whenever you walked by. Got to the room which was 33. Not a lot of floor space. Wondered what the double rooms were like as the queen wasn't massive. Very clean room and bathroom and bed was very comfy. Room was warm but there was a ceiling fan to help. Don't think the AC did a lot. Didn't know why people are complaining about ripped carpets etc. unless we got one of the better rooms. Couldn't ask for a better hotel on this budget in New York. We really enjoyed our stay and had no problems. Great that the subway is pretty much outside the door. The store a couple of buildings up is handy too and is open 24/7. The room was cleaned every morning and they did a good job. The corridors where always tidy aswell.
The wifi stopped working after the second day. But it seemed they changed the password, which would have been why it didn't work. But standing outside Starbucks or mcdonalds does the trick.
For a place to shower and sleep it's perfect.

Room Tip: We saw a lot of people didn't have any hot water on these reviews. We had the same problem when...

Like a lot of people my friend and I were doing New York on a budget and the reviews of this hotel were reasonable. First impressions were not good as the canopy was very tatty and then we discovered a very steep flight of stairs to get to check in, although the bellhops did come and take our cases. The reception area was a bit dark but the morocco theme was beginning to take shape. Check in was smooth and the staff very helpful and friendly. However when we left the reception, the hotel was very unloved. The carpets are ill fitting and do not look as if they have been cleaned in a while and the paintwork needs a good going over. Our room on the 3rd floor was very dark. Our view from the window was straight into someone's bathroom. The room did not look anything like the picture on the website, although the wall was painted red. The carpet was certainly not plush. The bed was very uncomfortable and every time you turned over or wanted to get out it made an awful squeaking noise. However the bedding was clean and the pillows lovely and squashy. The bathroom was very small but clean, and the shower was good when you could get the hot water to make an appearance. Plus we had 4 clean towels every day. The best bit about this hotel is definitely the staff, who went above and beyond when my husband rang to arrange a bottle of fizz in our room, and they could not do enough for you. The hotel is a good distance from the main hub of New York, but the subway station is almost outside the front door so very handy. There are also some nice shops and restaurants nearby. The Chinese massage shop around the corner is well worth a visit, after a long day walking, I came out feeling as if I had a new pair of feet!

We chose the Marrakech hotel because it was fairly priced, close to a subway and on Manhattan.

I paid for an upgrade to a "Superior Room" and we got room 156. I am not sure exactly what we paid extra for as the room was tiny. Once we laid our cases down by the bed, there was barely any room to walk. Do not be fooled by the pictures on their website, the rooms looked nothing like that.

Our room was on the same floor as the reception, which was really convenient for us. It was quiet and close enough for our Wifi to work well.

The room was clean, and the maids did a great job. Although we only let them in twice. With 2 of us, 2 large cases, a small case, and enough hanging space for around 10 items, we couldn't unpack which meant we had stuff everywhere!

Overall, I was pleased with the hotel (good & bad below), and if you are looking to go to NYC on a budget, then I would definitely recommend the hotel as it was around half the price of others closer to the action.

I personally never really felt I was in New York however because of how far out we were. That however isn't the hotels fault, and we knew that before we went. But if you want to be in the thick of it, then this hotel probably isn't for you.

Good Points
-The staff were all very friendly, would wish us a good day or ask how our day was.
-There were a couple of shops/pharmacy/diner/pizza spots near by for food. Also a Ben & Jerrys one street up that I thankfully only discovered on the last night :p
- Subway almost on your door step. Took the 1 line 8 stops down to Times Square and would only take about 15 minutes.
- Good/Fair price for location.
- Wifi & TV in the room
- Air Con in the room (Although this was VERY loud).

Bad Points
- The room was tiny and not big enough for a weeks stay for a couple. We expected it to be larger.
- The shower was really hard to control at times. Sometimes it blew very hot & cold (literally) and took a while to adjust.
- The plug in our shower bathroom was disgusting & rusty. Luckily I didn't need to stand on it.
- It definitely needs some updating. Old dusty radiators and old air-con units.
- Our bed had something wrong with it. On the left side, you would roll into the middle.
- When we checked out, we were sold the Go Air Shuttle. We asked about stops and times. We were told that the hotel was usually the last stop and would take about an hour. We were actually the first pick up, and it took nearly 2 hours. Although this isn't necessarily the hotels fault. I would advise checking this information. Luckily for us, we left enough time to allow for delays etc. But others may not have been as fortunate.

Room Tip: Rooms at the back are quieter.
