This up close and personal tour of a neighborhood, its history and people, with the added bonus of great and varied food tastings was a treat all around. There seem to be similarly named tours, and made sure I was reviewing the correct one here-- Foods of NY tours, The $52 Original Greenwich Village Food and Culture Tour " flavorsof the old Italian section of the West Village. our 13-person walking tour went by in a flash, and even went a bit over the three hour listed time. We sampled pizza from a tried and true family run iconic location, learned about the required type of tomato for the sauce, sampled olive oils and balsamic vinegars and got a lesson on authentic origins of same. the neighborhood cheese shop was fun, tasty, and a stacked cheese photo op. We learned about architecture, brick stacking and Italian food while trekking through the neighborhood, and snacking on freshly baked cookies and cannolis. Two sit-down restaurant locations juxtaposed old school meatballs with a trendy eatery that is featured on food networks. Was really the best $$ we spent in NYC and a value too. Would recommend going on multiple tours at the start of a stay due to the extremely valuable advice on where to visit, where to eat, with inside tips on how to do it!
