“New York Honeymoon first time in NYC”
Reviewed 1 May 2014

We stayed at this hotel for 3 nights for our honeymoon 5th to 8th April 2014. We had emailed the hotel before arriving to ask for a low floor and got one on floor 5 which was very handy and never experienced any problems with the lifts but there are only 6 rooms on each floor even though there are 34 floors. It was our first visit to New York and the hotel was in a good location about 5 mins walk from Times Square. In my opinion the rooms are very dated and small but you get what you pay for we knew we weren't going to a five star hotel and we didn't pay for that. We noticed it was still quite noisy on floor 5 and on our last night there seemed to be a party of kids on the landing outside our room all night who were flying home early the next morning but so were we and would have appreciated some sleep!!! It is clean and has a good location at a reasonable price, so well worth it. Not sure on breakfast as we ate out one morning and the other morning we went down at 7am as we had booked Top of the Rock for 8am, so we just grabbed a couple of coffees and a sticky bun each to take away, but, at least you could take stuff away as the breakfast seating area was chockablock. Another nice touch is the hot chocolate they have in the lobby when we returned on an afternoon. The staff on reception were lovely and organised our transport back to JFK on our departure at a really good price. Overall it is a clean, well located 3 star hotel at a very reasonable price.

Room Tip: We were on floor 5 and could still hear outside noise so maybe a bit higher although I know people h...

Hotel was convenient to many attractions including Times Square. We walked to many places and took the subway as well which was a couple blocks away

Hotel staff was very good from reception to concierge to bellman to cafeteria. We stayed 5 days with our 2 boys aged 11 and 14
Visited 911 memorial, Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island, Bronx Zoo, Top of the Rock, Ripleys, Trump Tower, FAO, Empire State Building, Central Park, museum of Natural History, Enterprise Air Craft Carrier Museum and many more places

Lots of walking to bring your sneakers! Great trip

We stayed in this hotel for 4 nights in April 2014. We were lucky enough to be on the 2nd floor so did not have a problem with the lift as other people seem to have had. We found the breakfast hectic but always managed to find a seat even though there were 5 of us. Thought the choice of food for breakfast was good too there was scrambled eggs, either bacon or sausage, toast, pancakes, muffins, boiled eggs and yoghurt so something for everyone. Rooms were small but ample. Location very good for getting around the city. Mini food market just round the corner and a liquor store opposite. Would definatly stay here again.

Stayed here 3 nights. Before arriving my husband emailed the hotel and asked for a city view room as it was our anniversary. This was taken into consideration when we checked in. Not the best of views from the room we got, however we could see the Empire State Building and we didn't get charged extra for a room with city view. The check in itself was very quick and friendly.
The room was quite small (but we weren't there to spend time in our room so that didn't matter) and clean.
As there are only 2 elevators there could often be a long wait for it in the morning. One morning we waited 40min as one elevator was out of function, had we known the wait would be so long we would have walked down !
Out of 3 mornings there was a breakfast queue only the 1st morning. Breakfast is very basic, I only had the yoghurt and juice. If you prefer fresh produce you're better off eating out.
All in all this is a good hotel to stay in, a lot cheaper than other hotels is this area and importantly the rooms and clean and pleasant. Walking distance to many attractions, subway just around the corner and easy to get a taxi.

Dear Gastronomic-Girl,

I am delighted to hear that you found our rooms clean and pleasant. However I am sorry that one of the elevators was down during the time you stayed with us. We do have monthly maintenance to inspect our elevators so this doesn’t occur. In the other hand I will let our front office staff know how their friendliness impacts our guest experience. Here at the Holiday Inn express we strive to make our guest feel welcomed and well serviced.

Kind regards,

Had booked for over year, only to be told on arrival that my reservation had been cancelled one hour previous.they had no other rooms and we had to leave and get another hotel.staff were a joke,no manager to speak to.they only want us to leave.they obviously over booked but didn't have the decency tell me.i really hope that something like that happens to staff of that hotel.they hotel management were to call me two separate occasions but again lacked the decency to do the right thing.i would be more than happy if their hotel closed after the way myself and my family were treated.

I stayed in the holiday inn express or 5 night over Easter. Good check in but expecting a room with a view after my husband had contacted them explaining the trip was to celebrate my 40th birthday which did not happen. We informed the staff of our celebration but no extras and no room with a view!! Breakfast is like feeding time at the zoo!!! Sharpen your elbows to get in the que!! Food was average and packed with carbs but good coffee and juices. We took breakfast back to our room after the first morning as seating is full.
Our room was clean but the coffee maker was never cleaned I had to clean it out and the coffee and condiments never replaced, after ringing reception for replacement coffee and milk etc was promised it was on its way but it never arrived!!
If staying on floor 15.. The lifts do not stop at this floor 18 mins stood with cases to leave which is annoying when you can hear the lift stopping at 14 & 16!
Would say... Stay but remember this is a budget hotel

Dear louandstevethomas,

Thank you for your feedback in your recent stay at the Holiday Inn Express Times Square. I am glad our room’s cleanliness met your standards and that you enjoyed our coffee and juices during breakfast. I do lament to hear that you found our breakfast area crowded. As you know breakfast is complimentary and can get congested at times. As per the coffee condiments not being replaced, I have brought this to the housekeeping managements attention. We strive to make our guest feel satisfied with our guest services and amenities. We hope to welcome you back in the near future.

Sincerely yours,

Well this is hard one to write , I have the added benefit of travelling to many places and try and be as fair as possible . The pros hotel staff excellent , location was fine you go to New York you expect to walk .
The room was clean , size was fine as only 2 adults and 1 child any more and there would have been a tight fit.We did have a problem where we were not provided any soap so after 2 calls and waiting a while finally got it but this was a minor issue.
The real issue is my injuries caused at breakfast with my cup of hot tea that I placed on my table which was not steady that spilt over my arm and stomach which weeks later still has scars!
The problem is the area for breakfast is too small , the amount of tables and people squeezed in is to tight ... This is my idea of hell and after my accident I found somewhere nicer outside where I could relax and have my space to enjoy .So the score would have been excellent without this occurring .Accidents happen and I hope that the Management do the right thing in service recovery as am waiting to hear outcome of my case.
