Doubletree By Hilton - Times Square South
Ranked #367 of 470 Hotels in New York City
Reviewed 14 May 2014

We have stayed at the this hotel 3 times and we find it a nice hotel in a convenient location for train travel and getting around Manhattan. It's not fancy and the rooms are fairly small, but everything is clean, works as it should, and the staff is friendly and helpful. The price is usually good for New York City hotels, so the value proposition is high.

The hotel was clean and staff were very friendly. The breakfast was good, and definitely a bargin for $9. The room was rather small. The hotel is a very comfortable walk from the conference center, and there are a number of good, cheap places to eat near by. I would definitely stay here again.

The hotel is very conveniently located in the heart of New York. The key areas of interest are all within a few minutes walk. The staff offered great service, making the stay even more enjoyable. Recommended for both business travellers and families on vacation.

I am a Tour Director for a student tour group. Generally tours stay outside of Manhattan, but this group was wise to pick a city hotel. What great service! I was unfortunate to become ill on the trip and had to spend an extra day holed up trying to recover. The hotel staff were kind and understanding, and they have no idea how much it was appreciated. Feeling as bad as I did, it was a wonderful second best to being in my own bed at home.

I was on a bust trip this past weekend and we stayed here. To say I was pleased with this hotel and their staff is an understatement. EVERYONE was extremely pleasant and helpful. A gentleman named Todd at the front desk was so friendly, and helpful!! This was our first time in NYC and he recommended some really nice places to visit. As long as he and the other friendly people we encountered are there, I won't dream of staying anywhere else. The hotel was very clean, cookies were AMAZING, and right in the heart of Times Square. I give this 5 Stars!!

I used to frequent this hotel for business but stopped coming here in December 2012. This month was my first repeat visit since then, due to lack of space at another Hilton in the area which I normally stay at.

Management seems to have improved since 2012, which is a good thing. The front desk is very responsive and caretaking of its guests. Todd, at the front desk, is delightful and quite helpful with guests -- refreshing to have such a nice display of kind customer service.

The property overall seems to be in better shape -- more clean and picked up.

The rooms, however, continue to have a very poor design and construction upon its last remodel (looks like within the last 10 years). This is no fault of the current management, but, for example, my shower never drained and had standing water; and the sink faucet sat too far back to properly drain into the sink and so water continually ran off the counter.

The sheets looked to be clean but had some stains on them -- looked like ink stains? highlighter pen stains?

The desk/dresser was very old and worn, along with the printed material to introduce me to the hotel -- might as well have been a low-end 2-star hotel out in the Midwest.

For $450/night I would have expected more.

On the bright side, the bed was comfortable, as well as the pillows. I was also put in a room on the back side of the hotel behind the elevators, which was (for New York) surprisingly quiet. One of the first quiet stays I've had in the city ... or maybe I was just too tired to notice?

The computers in the "business center" (to the side of the restaurant in plain view are newer, but they are placed at such a high pitch from the chair -- nothing ergonomic there. I guess it's to kindly dissuade you from using them for more than 10 min. What I didn't like was that because the computer screens are in such public view, if you are paying for baggage for your airline flight, someone could potentially grab your credit card number as you enter it -- didn't like that feeling that I was so exposed. They have a high-quality laser printer there, and you can print for free -- I believe you can also print from your laptop, but check with the front desk to see if that is true.

If you're coming to do business in New York and particularly in Midtown, the location is fine. It's within walking distance of anything in Midtown, as well as easy access to subways. A cab is always easy to obtain. There is a decent, larger-sized deli on the corner of 8th and 36th for quick food.

They have cleaned up their exercise room in the basement. It used to be awfully miskept. The equipment has been updated. And it all works without error. There are two treadmills, one ergo walker, and a bike. There's also a very basic weight machine, some medicine balls, and mats. Small and sparse for a hotel with so many rooms. I was down there at 5:20 in the morning and there were 3 of us. So, if it ever gets packed for you, take for a brisk walk on the streets. It's a good hike to Central Park for example.

Hope this helps!

It´s a nice hotel, nearby transports (subway and train to JFK), and close to Times square 15min walk.
The room is medium with a excelent bathroom. Very clean and confortable beds.
The breakfast was basic but nice ( I miss a little chese or ham)
The staff is really nice and allways with a smile and ready to help us.
