I've stayed here twice this year and the staff goes out of their way to make you feel welcome and help in any way they can. The location is ideal as you can easily walk to it from Penn Station and it's close to diners and subway stops. We received freshly baked cookies on arrival and even when we left! It's also a very good value for the city.

My wife, two sons (ages 16 and 13) , and I recently stayed at this hotel for four days while visiting New York City. The staff were all very friendly and accommodating. The trademark cookies were sought out repeatedly by my boys! We stayed on the 21st floor (out of 26), in a room with two double beds. The quarters were a bit tight; queen-sized beds would have been better, but they wouldn't have fit in the small room. The beds themselves were very comfortable: a little on the soft side like a pillow-top, so that you sink in to them. Surprisingly, street noise was not an issue. I have stayed 20+ floors up in other hotels closer to Times Square, and was constantly barraged by sirens and horns throughout the night. The sink in our bathroom was odd in that it hardly ever delivered cold water; its range went from warm to hot. Fortunately there was an ice machine on our floor. What turned out to be the best thing about this hotel was its location on 36th St. between 8th and 9th Avenues. There is a subway entrance for the A, C, E trains at 35th & 8th, just one block away. The entrance for the 1, 2, 3 trains can be found at 34th & 7th, two short blocks and one avenue away. From these access points we easily made it to see the Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island, the 9/11 Memorial, Greenwich Village, the American Museum of Natural History, and The Guggenheim Museum. It's an easy walk to Times Square, and once you've seen how crowded it is with tourists in the summer you'll be glad you didn't stay right on it. There are a slew of restaurants over in Hell's Kitchen, particularly on 9th Ave between 38th and 49th Streets. Overall this hotel was a comfortable, reasonably-priced location that was an excellent "home base" from which we were able to conduct our sightseeing all around the city.

We've stayed many times at this hotel, through different name changes. We have been very happy with each of our stays. The warm chocolate chip cookie upon arrival really helps!!! Great front desk staff and parking across the street (they don't have valet anymore, but still very convenient). 10 minute walk to Times Square and just a couple blocks from Javitts Center. Very, I mean VERY easy access from Lincoln Tunnel, pretty much means basically no NYC driving. 3 Computers in the lounge area with printing capabilities is a great plus. They will hold your luggage after you check out too, so you can enjoy your last day in NYC. The only thing that was frustrating was the elevators are slow - only 2 elevators and at times the wait can be a bit long. But certainly not anything that would make me chose a different hotel over!

The staff was super friendly and helpful. We reserved two rooms and requested they be close together (they do not have adjoining rooms) but they were on two separate floors. They were very apologetic and offered us a lower rate on both rooms. With NYC prices, this was a treat! Couple of negatives: rooms are super small (although it was one of the few hotels were we could find a room with two double beds); we requested extra towels via our online reservations but we did not receive them; elevator is super slow. Other than that, it definitely is clean (and I'm very picky) and fits the bill for a quick weekend away. We were there to see the city, not to spend time in the hotel, so it worked for our needs.

This is absolutely a fine hotel. The location is quite convenient, with a subway station that has direct connection with JFK airport just a block away. Walking distance to a number of attractions and restaurants, Times Square etc. The rooms are a bit small, but I guess that is understandable on Manhattan.
But I find it very poor service to be charged extra for wifi as a guest at this hotel. During our two week trip in the US and Canada this was the only hotel not to have a wifi fee. (It was also the most expensive.) Downtown hotels in Toronto, Boston and DC, as well as the Vermont ski lodge and the simple motel on Cape Cod, all offered complimentary wifi. Having internet connection is such a basic need for a traveller that it shouldn’t be considered something extra. The hotel might just as well have charged us for watching TV or using the elevator.

My friends and I stayed at the doubletree overnight for a Bachlorette party this past weekend , we had a phenomenal stay at this hotel. The staff was super nice and went out of their way to make sure we were happy. Thomas who worked at the front desk was so nice and despite our room not being ready at check in he kept checking in with us to make sure we were ok and worked hard to get us up to our room as quickly as possible. sal the bellhop was awesome he always greeted us with a smile and even recommended different places to go out in the city. The room was a little small but that's typical for NYC. The only complaint I had was the overpowering smell from the cleaning products.

I can't say enough about the staff at this hotel they were so friendly and warm which is hard to find in NYC. Hope to be back soon!
