“Lots of potential, but missing something”
Reviewed 30 September 2012

I love Kimpton hotels because each one is unique and generally the staff is warm & accommodating. However, Ink48 comes off as rather impersonal. The front desk staff was a bit cold & gave off an air of being put out - I realize this is New York but come on, you are working at a hotel so you can't act put off by visitors. Our room was fine except for the light fixture in the shower, which was a recessed light but came loose and was literally hanging from the ceiling. We told the front desk on our way out on our first day and they said someone would fix it but it was never done. My other issue was the rooftop bar...we tried to go up one night and were firmly told by the "doorman" that flip flops were not allowed. OK, this is a hotel bar...not Studio 54. He said it was for safety reasons, but when I returned in stilettos, that seemed fine. Hmmmm...flat shoes with exposed toes are not ok, but precarious heels are safe? The view from the bar is definitely worth it, but again...it is not a happening NYC bar scene by any stretch of the imagination. Hotel guests should be welcomed with open arms and allowed to hang out feeling slightly-hip as they sip their overpriced drinks & look out across the city.

We booked a bit late so there wasn't much to choose from wanting a room for three persons. This hotel was kind of stiff and pricy. Good sized room with a lovely view. The sky bar is worth a visit but the drinks are very expensive. The cleaning staff made a good work and the location was great being a fifteen minutes walk from Times square and metro stations. A lot of noise coming from the streets but I guess it is hard finding a quiet location on Manhattan.

This hotel looks very nice on the Internet, and it's not bad, but a little tired and in a terrible location. You really feel like you're in the middle of nowhere - surrounded by car yards and salvation army half way houses. But the worst thing in my view was the truly terrible service. The staff don't know the answer to anything, delivered my laundry at 11.30pm when I was sound asleep, mucked up our payment, told us the wrong number for international calls etc etc etc. oh and definitely do NOT eat here, the good is the worst!!!! Not a good experience.

Three nights on business, in an unknown hotel. Initial impressions were favourable, enhanced by the massive driftwood reception desk. Funky, if slightly gloomy interiors, good views (ask for a river facing room, if they have one), rooms a combination of cool and luxury, and the high quality of the bathrooms is worth a mention. Nice little extras, like a running map (go north, instead of the suggested southerly trails - its more interesting and mellow), the offer to provide all those little things you might have forgotten to pack and interesting dressing gowns.... The restaurant is extremely high quality. I ate there three nights and was extremely impressed with the food. Try the quail starter, its exquisite. Overall, extremely satisfied and, while it is away from the madding crown, its not that far: 10 minutes from Times Square is no real hardship.

Room Tip: Ask for a river view, as high up as you can (to avoid outside noise).

I came to New York for work so was here for a few days. I wanted something close to the training in Hell's Kitchen and something close to the sites so I wouldn't be walking by myself at night. This hotel is lovely and it's pretty close to everything. It's not the nicest walk across the city to Times Square and Rockafeller Centre (but I didn't necessarily feel unsafe either). It's just not pretty. The hotel was great though - very modern, clean and staff were friendly. My room was great other than the fact that the view was of a cement wall.

I was really, really worried about coming to NYC and picking up bed bugs and I didn't...thank goodness! I had room service and the food was delicious! I wouldn't say the bellhops were extremely helpful holding doors and all that but when I needed to store my bag, they were really helpful. I'd come back here with my family and saw people of all ages staying here.

Had no problem with the hotel itself although the drinks on the roof top bar are very expensive. It was the location that lets it down. Its a long walk to the nearest subway / restaurant so you either walk along no very interesting streets for twenty minutes or catch a cab for 15 dollars. All in all New York didn't impress me.

We moved here after staying at the Plaza for a few nights. The location was actually really good, the rooms large with great views across the city. Typical modern Kimpton decor to the rooms and a good size bathroom.

We did have a problem with the first room we were given as there was construction noise from renovation on the floor above, the hotel moved us to a much higher floor without any fuss.

Consider joining the Kimpton loyalty program to get your free wi-fi.

We ate in the Print restaurant on our last night and had an excellent dinner so don't overlook this as an option.
