“Nice Location, Good Value”
Reviewed 23 June 2013

This was it! I really budget shopped trying to find a suitable hotel near everything that wasn't too high priced. This was our first trip to NYC and from reading the reviews I understood that most of the hotels in Manhattan were small but this was okay. It was laid out nicely to capitalize on space and the furniture was nice. In the bathroom there was a granite sink and some cherry wood shelves in the bathroom so we could put all of our things out that we needed. The room was clean and the beds were comfortable. The continental breakfast had a little more than what other hotels we stayed at offered. The downside was there was no microwave or refridgerators in the room and the only one we were told we could use was for staff and it wasn't working. We parked in front temporarily to unload and then were able to park in a nearby garage for the hotel discounted rate of $35 a day. (remember to get parking ticket validated at the desk). We were able to walk or get a taxi to do whatever we wanted. We walked to time square and also the Pier 83 where we took a nighttime harbor cruise up the Hudson River from Circle line cruises. A definite must! There are a few restaurants near the hotel. One we ate at was beautiful inside, very ornate, not very busy but the food was excellent! The Waitress was very nice with an Irish accent. It's across the street from the hotel I wish I remembered the name. Most of the time when we took taxi's we grabbed one on the busy street to the right of the hotel. There's Macy's and some other stores there as well and a mcdonalds around the corner as well. We took a budgeted room so our view was of the side of another building but well, we thought economically so that was okay. We saw what we wanted to see while in NY. The concierge was friendly and gave us tips on how to get around NYC.

Room Tip: Read above about the rooms. You'll have to pay more if you want a cityview room.

This Hampton Inn was a great place to stay in Midtown New York. My family of four were on our vacation and this was our first time in New York City. The staff was fantastic from our check-in to check-out. They were very attentive and friendly. Maria at the front desk was awesome and Luis took care of us at breakfast. They even have a concierge which helped us for our sight seeing plans and bookings. Location was PERFECT and right in the heart of Manhattan that made it easy for us to walk, catch the subway or do some shopping. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND this location especially for the price. A GREAT VALUE!!!!

This was a great hotel! The rooms are a bit too small (though, that just comes with being in a dense city like NYC), but they are efficient and extremely neat and clean. Looking out my window, I could see the Empire State Bldg, and that was awesome! It's in a pretty safe location, as safe as Manhattan gets probably. The staff were VERY respectful, kind, and helpful! The ONLY thing I would change was how early the check-out time was (11am), I would have loved to stay there a bit longer in the morning. :)
The breakfast was good, not a lot of food, but enough. There is no lobby area or restaurant/bar area either. It's generally more a resting place with friendly staff rather than a high-end business hotel. But I enjoyed my stay!

Husband and I visited NYC recently, bringing along our U.K. visitors for a weekend of sightseeing. Have stayed at many Hampton Inns and found rooms spacious, nice and comfortable. This time it was a small European sized room, threadbare towels, and even though it was New York, it was very overpriced for what you got. Breakfast was arranged in a small alcove teaming with people trying to get to the food, which would run out and not be refilled for 20-30 minutes. Again, not up to the usual Hampton Inn standards. Location was convenient to the train station so journey up from Washington, DC was easy. That was the biggest plus of the stay.
Would recommend staying elsewhere if you care at for an experience more than a step up from a motel-like one.

Room Tip: Stay elsewhere?

Dear Connie,

It was a pleasure having you stayed with us. Thank you for your review. Please be informed that the hotel rooms in New York City are really pretty small, unless you're booking a hotel suite. We're sorry about the breakfast, it's most likely just such a busy time. It's nice to hear though that you liked the midtown location.

We hope you still consider staying with us again and rest assured we'll make your stay more pleasurable. Please feel free to contact me directly if I can be of assistance.

Best Regards,
Jane Atendido

The Hampton Inn by the Empire State Building is the perfect location for visitors to NYC. It is really close to a metro line, so you can jump on and get anywhere you need to be quickly.

The hotel itself is beautiful and modern. The beds were very comfortable, and I felt like I could sleep for days there! The rooms were very clean and all of the staff was very friendly.

They have a concierge who is very friendly and willing to help you plan your stay in NYC.

Their breakfast was really good as well, the eggs were a little weird, but nothing to turn your nose up to.

The only problem here was the clogged elevator while housekeeping is working. There are 2 elevators that go 20 floors, so walking up the stairs to your room is not really ideal. But it was manageable to wait for the elevator.

Once again, super friendly staff and great location!

Room Tip: Rooms on higher levels will probably have less street noise

The hotel was within walking distance of Times Square, Empire State Building, and three main subway stations. Room was small, but very comfortable. I was amazed by how quiet it was, the only sounds we heard were occasional sirens. The only negative was the air conditioner, it was quite loud and very cold when it was on. It would have helped if there was a lower speed setting. The breakfast was more than adequate, the omelets were good (when they were served), the scrambled egg chunks were not so good. Food was refilled constantly, regardless of the time of day

The window did not shut properly and as a result it sounded like it was open to the busy street. I'm used to a quiet neighborhood and know New York could be loud, but this was totally unacceptable. Not a well maintained property. I called and they send an "engineer" up fairly promptly but he quickly gave up and said he could not fix it. They did not move my room as hotel was full. Nice guy up front named Keith said he would check with the manager about a discount, but the manager said "he could not control the street noise." He obviously missed the point that he could control whether his window shuts properly and take responsibility. I am a Hilton Silver and this is the worst experience I have ever had. They really don't seem to get or care about proper maintenance or fail to take responsibility.
