We found the graffiti exhibit compelling and really enjoyed the photography exhibit of Coney Island. Another treat was the exquisite doll house on display.

A smaller museum that always has interesting, informational exhibits. The current graffiti exhibit is fantastic as is the exhibit on the Gilded Age. Though currently undergoing some renovation work, the museum continues to host fabulous shows along with gems from its permanent collection. Easily accessed and not pricey, definitely add this to your must visit museums.

Though this gem of a museum is on Fifth Ave., it is a bit farther up than museums like the Met, so I think it gets overlooked. Definitely check out what exhibits is has. I always find something that I didn't even know that I was interested in!

Not your typical large museum. This is a small one which actually makes it easy for one to complete. The museum has photo exhibitions depicting NY, it's people and their life.

This place is OK, but it's title is misleading as it is not a traditional history type museum. I'd describe it more as an artsy socially interpretive display relating to New York. The exhibit of street art/graffiti was good, as was the Guilded area and old photos of Coney Island. However, it's basically just a bunch of aspects of New York as interpreted by art, not a traditional museum display. Likewise there was a display on social activism, but it wasn't really directly NYC specific. I suppose it would be good if you're into that sort of thing, but not if you are expecting a traditional museum.

More annoying was that significant parts of the venue were closed due to renovation (about a 1/3). They are still happy to charge full price for entry though. Young children will be very bored here, though they did hand out a little treasure hunt map to try to keep them occupied.
