“Amazing!”
Reviewed 28 June 2014 via mobile

Just spent a week at The Strand, great hotel, location couldnt be better. Very helpful, cheerful staff, clean comfortable room and the bed was better than my one at home! The view of the Empire State building from the roof terrace is fantastic! New Yorkers are great except the taxi drivers who rip you off every time which was the only downside of a great week.

Dear Guest,

Thank you for the enthusiastic comments about your week at the Strand. It’s great to hear that everything at the hotel was to your liking. Now if we can find a way to improve your experience with taxi drivers, we would be the first to help. Please come again soon and hope you enjoy your summer!

Warm regards,

John Loizos

Fantastic staff, all helpful and polite...as most american hotels are. Nice and modern design and facilities, good location. Great nighttime views from the roof, the bar is a little expensive though. Subway is close as is grand central station. Ideal central location for easy access to all the many sights of this great city....enjoy.

Dear Guest,

Thanks for your generous comments, and for mentioning how convenient it is to have a subway stop and Grand Central so close by. Big city traffic makes the subway an efficient way to get around. TripAdvisor readers can benefit from your wise observations.

Enjoy your summer!

Warm regards,

John Loizos

I've stayed at the Strand a couple of times and can report that it is consistently good. Pros - great location, in midtown and close enough to Times Square if one wants to feel touristy New york but also close to Bryant Park (Monday night summer movies), the New York Library and Grand Central. It has a great rooftop bar and the restaurant does good (if pricey) breakfast. There is also a Blacksmith Deli almost directly opposite the hotel for other options. Room amenties are fine, gym isn't very big but so long as your timing is right you should find the machine you need. Room Tip- ask for a higher floor - if you don't like noise then would suggest an inner room ( with no view) as even on the 11th floor the noise from the streets is significant if facing the street. If you sleep like the dead.. then do ask for a room with the view of the Empire state building !

Room Tip: Higher up is better

Recently returned from a 30th Wedding Anniversary stay at the Strand Hotel in New York. Very smart "boutique" hotel. in an excellent location. Room was very clean and nicely furnished. Bathroom was large with a wet room type shower. Could do with extra shelf space for your bits and pieces and unusually for the USA the shower preasure was not very good. Pre-paid for continental breakfast which was nicely presented but a bit of an unusual combination. Very small glass of yoghurt with a bit of fruit and nuts on top. Small muffin, croissant, and some sort of pineapple bread. Orange juice and coffee. Other breakfast options are available from the menu if you want it at extra cost. Had one evening meal in the Strand Bistro which was excellent. Very well presented and the service was very good. However, I think $28.00 for two glasses of wine is a bit steep. Visited the roof top bar which looked very nice with excellent views of the Empire State Building. However, it is not that big an area and it was very busy so we did'nt stay. Overall we really enjoyed our stay at the Strand and would definately stay again.

Dear Guest,

Congratulations on your 30th anniversary! We were honored that you chose the Strand for that important occasion, and thank you for taking a moment to write. I’ll share your praise of the cuisine and presentation with new Chef Jason Tilmann of the Strand Bistro; he’ll be happy to know that you enjoyed your dinner there.

Have a relaxing summer.

This has to be one of the smartest and friendliest hotels in NY. Its a "boutique" hotel that holds its head up with the big boys and is superior to many of the chain brands. I would highly recommend this hotel for its location, its staff and the most fabulous rooftop bar you will find around.

Room Tip: Choose a front facing, high level room for views of the Empire State Building
