“excellent hotel”
Reviewed 25 August 2014

The Strand doesn't look much from the outside but staying there for our 5 night break was fantastic. Its perfect and included a breathtaking view of the Empire State Building from our room. The staff were always pleasant and nothing was to much trouble for them. Our room was always clean and tidy when we got back from whatever we had been doing that day and the beds were turned down for us every night. The breakfasts were something else,if you didn't want the continental you could choose from the menu at a small extra cost.I could go on and on about this hotel its near to many of the touristy bits but my recommendation is that if I ever go back to New York I will definitely be staying there.

Room Tip: Before you book your New York trip you definitely need to check this hotel out its fantastic

The Strand is a small cozy hotel, with a nice room (a bit small) and a decent gym in the basement. But the best thing about this place is the rooftop bar (Top of the Strand) with a breathtaking view of the Empire State building.

So I would certainly recommend this property if you don't want to spend that much.

Loved our stay at the Strand in NYC. Great location within few blocks of Times Square, Fifth Ave Shopping and walking distance to Broadway and great restaurants. Rooftop bar with most amazing view of the Empire State Building. Very clean and the most important feature of our stay- the staff - front desk, doormen (Carlos and Drey), bar staff (love you Inez) and the dedicated housekeeping folks. They knew us by name by day 2 and took care of our every need. Felt like we came home every night of our stay. You will have lots of choices in NYC, but you won't regret your stay at the Strand. Definitely going back!

Room Tip: Empire State Building side above 10th floor

Stayed at Strand for 5 nights together with my family and was extremely pleased with the service level , right from the moment you enter the hotel through the front door to the time you leave - you will feel quite at home . Specially the front desk staff - Peter & Sharieff . We stayed at the ESB view room - which was great . The views from the rooftop bar are also quite nice . Will definitely come back ....

Room Tip: Empire state Building view - especially higher floors (14th onwards)

We stayed here last December and has a wonderful few nights at The Strand. Very friendly staff assist you well with all your enquiries. The hotel is in a great position if you only have a few days to see all the main attractions. Subway station is very easy to reach. The rooftop bar is excellent even if it is for a quick cheeky cocktail just to see the views!

Room Tip: Rooms with a view of the Empire State are a little more expensive but well worth the view!

Dear Guest,

It is wonderful to know that our central location and friendly hospitality made your stay with us last December quite memorable. I can’t thank you enough for taking the time to write a review, and I’m doubly delighted that the glorious views from our rooftop bar remain happily fixed in your mind.

Hope you will make it back this December.

I chose this hotel for recent two week business trip as it was well located in the centre of Manhattan and was considerably cheaper than other hotels nearby.

It is a nice hotel, especially for the price in the location. However, I guess for that price flaws are to be expected, in my case:

- The floor was exceptionally noisy, including noise from the air conditioning on a neighbouring building
- The internet connection was slow enough to make even basic web surfing a challenge, forget trying to watch videos or work
- The ironing board was a covered boards with no legs, that you were seemingly expected to place on the work top (no room) or on the bed where the cable from the iron didn't stretch
- The cleaning always appeared to have been a rush job, numerous times items were not cleared away or the shower toiletries were not replenished and on one occasion I returned to my room to be greeted by a pair of rubber gloves left on my suitcase
- Breakfast service was dreadful, a 25 minute wait for a croissant, a muffin, a piece of bread and a cold boiled egg; I had to practically accost someone to finally get offered a drink

In fairness if you are spending a few days in New York then this may be one of the better places to stay centrally based in Manhattan, however after 12 days the flaws began to grate.

Just spent 2 nights at the Strand Hotel and had a very good time and I did not want to leave.
The minute you enter in the Lobby Peter is welcoming you like you are part of his family! Makes you feel very comfortable and right away you know you picked the right place.
The roof top bar is very cool and it is difficult to find such a nice view of the Empire State Building in another roof top bar. Service is very friendly yet very professional.
The restaurant is looking good but they will have some change very soon. Can't wait to see how it will look afterwards. The Chef is very present in his restaurant and does not have any problem clearing tables when needed. That is what I call 1st class!
I will be back and am looking forward to it!

You are great to point out that our Chef is a true gem, from his winning ways in the kitchen to thorough commitment to making diners happy. Thank you for your very kind comments about your stay at The Strand. When you return, I hope to hear how you like the Bistro’s exciting new menu, which will be unveiled very soon
