The Townhouse Inn of Chelsea

Our recent stay at the Inn on 23rd found it to be a lovely property in the midst of the conrete jungle. Our room, the Quilt Room, was very attractive with an Americana theme. It was exceptionally clean, well-appointed with a homey feeling. The Inn overall is great, and you can't help but feel safe and secure here. Wonderful bed linens, and a noice blackout machine too. They do have passes to many of the famous museums, but I guess Jason forgot when we told him we were going to the Museum of the City of NY and we didn't know so we paid the entrance fee only to learn upon our return that we could have saved $20. Here comes the "but". Breakfast is mediocore. The breakfast server, knowing we had an 8:30 appointment, brought out the fruit bowl promptly at 8:00. While that is the time appointed for breakfast, we needed to eat in a few minutes and only one other person was in the dining area. The server could have offered to put out the fruit a few minutes ahead, but barely acknowledged our presence. It's called service. Tough, cold pancakes that needed to be microwaving came next, and bagels. Butter was unspreadable. Brought out syrup when we were leaving. Since the Inn owns the restaurant, I would suggest a 20-25% discount to encourage guests to use the dining room. The current 10% just doesn't do it. I'm sure profit from alcohol would cover the discount. I would stay here again however, especially since the subway is in the same block, and goes to Penn Station quickly (the ACE Downtown to the hotel, Uptown to return to the train).

I've visited this neighborhood for over 20 years and I've tried most of the hotels in the area soon after they opened. Chain hotels, high rises, suite hotels... but this was my first visit to the Inn on 23rd and it's by far the best. I arrived to a personal welcome, and from then on the staff made every effort to see that I was comfortable. The library/ breakfast room makes a cozy retreat from the action outside. My room was good sized (for New York) and very well maintained. Transportation is convenient on 7th and 6th Avenues and the inn provided every imaginable city guide as well as tips like how to get around the lines at the Metropolitan Museum of Art! When I got back after a full day, I could make a complimentary cup of tea, or have a glass of wine from the honor bar. I expect to be back often.

Room Tip: Rooms at the back are quieter. I stayed on 5th floor and heard very little street noise.

Warm, cosy, clean and comfortable, I would recommend this B&B to anyone.Furnished with eclectic antiques, it is full of character and a refreshing change from bland hotel chains. Ideally situated in Chelsea and close to the subway. Good bar restaurant on the ground floor. A warm, friendly welcome from the very helpful staff.

We love coming to NY and staying at this beautiful, cozy and friendly Inn. Every room is decorated differently, and we plan to stay in them all.

The staff treats everyone like family and makes great recommendations for various attractions and things to do. It is also well located near subway stops to get anywhere in a matter of minutes. Can't wait to go back.

We enjoyed the Inn so much last year, we stayed again. All previous plus qualities still there - friendly & helpful staff, comfortable rooms (Victoria this time, lived up to the expectations). These rooms at the rear are so quiet, great sleeping in otherwise noisy NY! The Bistro at ground floor is very pleasant for casual meal or snack, or try Eataly. Alternatively get prepared foods from nearby Whole Foods or across the road and eat in Library.

What a find! The price was right, and worth every penny. The Inn is impeccably clean. Each room in the Inn has a theme, and we stayed in the Quilt room. It was cozy and had all the amenities we needed. A full continental breakfast is included in the charming and beautifully decorated library. Will return!

Stayed for two nights and had a really lovely time. Homey, warm and welcome. Love the library/dining area. My 8 year old son adored Dorothy the Inn cat. Comfortable beds. Nice size rooms. Good location. Look forward to returning and staying longer next time.

Room Tip: Rooms with a view are noisier...so keep that in mind.
