When I checked into the Ace Hotel, I felt really, really old. The dark lobby was filled with hip, attractive 20-something New Yorkers, the music was cool and loud, and everything seemed crowded. I asked the guy manning the desk to put me in the quietest room he had, "The one you'd give grandparents." He obliged and my husband and I ended up in a large (by Manhattan standards) room that was so comfortable and quiet that we fell right asleep. The next morning we had coffee from the in-lobby Stumptown, followed by a heavenly breakfast at the Breslin, and found the lobby to be still crowded but so warm and inviting. I can see why people gather at this hotel -- it's beautiful and full of good food and energy, but it's also a haven from the city.
The location is convenient to Penn Station but doesn't have that Midtown vibe. You can find good food and bars easily around the Ace -- but they are just as easily found inside the hotel.

Room Tip: Interior rooms are quiet.

We chose this hotel because, honestly, it just looked really cool, artistic and relaxed. We also appreciated the reasonable price point and proximity to the subway (it's literally right around the corner, so easy).

We were warmly greeted at the reception and were informed that we got upgraded from a small room to a medium room on account of my 30th birthday - yay! Everyone was really nice and helpful. I half expected cold service due to the hipster vibe of the hotel, but nothing could be further from the truth. Everyone was just lovely.

Our room was awesome. For reference, the medium sized room was similar in size to what you would find at a traditional hotel. Located on the top floor, it had a huge king-sized bed with a gorgeous Pendleton blanket, a record player, a small but well-designed bathroom with a window and a sweet rain shower, and best of all, we had the most perfect view of the empire state building!

Lucky me, my friends from Toronto arranged for flowers and chocolate in the room to celebrate my birthday; the surprise was beautifully executed by hotel staff.

We retured to the hotel after dinner around 11pm on Saturday night and the lobby was filled with people enjoying coffee and drinks from the lobby bar and listening to great music. We enjoyed taking photos in the photo booth and headed up to our room, where we couldn't hear a thing from the lobby.

We enjoyed breakfast at the hotel restaurant, the Breslin in the morning. My husband's pancakes and my yogurt were delicious but slightly overpriced. We also partook in happy hour at the John Dory Oyster restaurant on Sunday night, which was pretty good. Service was just so-so though.

Ace Hotel NYC not only met but exceeded our expectations. If you like a lively scene, this place is for you. I probably wouldn't go back to the restaurants but I would most definitely stay here again!

I stayed at the Ace Hotel for 4 nights over New Year 2013 with my boyfriend and family. The hotel reception staff were really friendly and welcoming - the atmosphere in the lobby bar area is fantastic! Always something going on, full of New Yorkers and a steady supply of great coffee. We had a small room which for a short stay was definitely large enough for two people - lots of kitsch touches which we loved. Including the bath products - Rudy's brand which smelt amazing and are provided by the Barbers Shop next door! Our room also had a brilliant view of the Empire State Building. The Ace is in a superb location between midtown and the Flatiron District - so easy to get around whatever means of travel you prefer. We would 100% stay here again and are looking forward to trying out their newest opening in Shoreditch, London very soon.

Room Tip: Rooms facing 29th Street will have great views of the Empire State Building! If you go for a mini r...

I loved that this hotel was a bit different. Interesting little jokes about the amenities in the room - had a slight army feel (and quite manly) but the room was great and the location even better. Very central, close to subway on 28th. Good coffee shop downstairs and a king size bed and large room. Staff were friendly and helpful. Only negative is that there were no coffee facilities in the room but otherwise it was perfect. Trendy hub of activity in the lobby with Dj's on the odd occasion and the locals come here to meet for drinks. Nicer for young people but not disruptive if it not your scene!

Room Tip: Get the king size bed - worth it!

Stayed over Christmas 2013 for 6 nights.

Checked into the hotel in its atmospheric lobby after a 15 hr flight. Crowded with music playing and a buzz about the place. Went straight upstairs unpacked and hit the bar to try and drink off the jet lag.

The bar serves great local beers and a couple of IPA's at 7.5% warmed us up nicely.

Ate in the Breslin at the bar while a band started in the lobby, unfortunately had to call it a day at bout 10pm as we were on 7am body clock time.

The lobby is just cool, no other word for it, the next morning we were up at 5am waiting for the coffee place to open (wasnt that impressed with the coffee to be honest) and marvelled at the ornate features that had been left in the building after restoration.

Hotel is seconds from 5th Ave. Right in central Manhatten and walkable up to Central park and shopping or down to Soho.

Rooms were massive compared to most NYC places and the price is just amazing for what you get.

John Dory Oyster Bar was great for food also...

Aahhhh to be honest cant really fault any of it. Well Done Ace Hotel......... Take a gold star!

We spent two nights here in Dec 2009 for a conference and loved everything about the Ace! It was our first boutique hotel experience and it was so much better than going to a big chain. If you like unique decor, retro interior design, you must stay here! We also loved the in house bathroom products, which have a fabulous scent and the pumpkin spice cupcakes from the cafe on the main floor. We intend to go back just or those! We booked through a hotel booking website so we also got a very reasonable price (for NYC).

I booked the Ace Hotel for Saturday through Monday on Marathon weekend. We were able to checkin early and explore the city and neighborhood some on Saturday. Having to get up at 4AM for the marathon put a damper on the Saturday night experience, but the lobby was packed and looked real fun. The noise did not carry up to the room which was great. I had a few odd requests (safety pins, some plastic bags) for the marathon gear, and the front desk was surprisingly able to help me out and provide these. Great service!

Since my alarm had to be set extra early (and it was Daylight Savings weekend), we used a wake-up call from the front desk - and it certainly helped!

The room itself was great - it was comfortable, clean, and had great amenities. I felt comfortable relaxing in the room, hanging out in the lobby, or getting some fantastic coffee at Stumptown.

I'd love to stay at ACE again and explore!
