Stayed 6 nights in August 2011. Could not fault the premises, breakfasts or the hospitality in any way. The bus to downtown stopped at the front door. There was also some excellent eateries one block away. We would highly recommend Mount Morris House to couples or families as the place to stay in New York [Manhattan]

Stayed in Jade room for 7 nights in November 2011. Mount Morris House is a beautifully restored brownstone house in a great place of Manhattan (Harlem, adjacent to Mount Morris park).

First location. Located in Harlem this place is not central. However, its connections to downtown NYC are great. There is a bus just outside the house that takes you all the way down the 5th avenue (only a short ride to museum mile). There are two nearby subway lines. Closer 2/3 (direct to TImes square and Brooklyn) and a few meters more to 4/5/6 (direct to Grand central and ferry in the south). Note that 2/3 and 4/5 subways are express lines, and they are really quick when going downtown (it takes only around 15-20 minutes to Times Square). The district itself feels safe, and we didn't have any problems. Also, the house is located only 11 blocks away from the Central Park. There are also some very nice (and also popular) restaurants around. Taxi from airport costs 45 USD + 7 USD tolls (6.5 + 0.5) + tip. One can also use a public transport, it takes around 1h40-1h50 with Skytrain + line A to 125th street (only 7,25 USD or 5 USD + weekly metro card).

As mentioned before, house is beautifully restored in victorian style. Rooms are huge - at least our Jade room was, also well decorated with some nice touches. Bathroom is also big, there is also a bathtub. I think the size both the room and bathroom are big for the NYC standard. Rooms are comfortable (enough place to put away your luggage), clean and very quiet during the night. Wireless internet access is free, there is also a large LCD TV with cable TV.

Brekafast is in a beautiful dining room downstairs, all the guests share the same table (where conversations become interesting). Breakfast is good, served every day at 8:30am (i would prefer it earlier - practical reason - interesting discussions around the breakfast table can get long, and times fly fast in NYC), there is lots of variety, fruits are a bonus.

Owners are friendly, knowledgable about New york and history and very helpful. Basically, their ability to renovate the house and their hospitality make this B&B stand out above other.

To sum it up. We had a great stay in this superb B&B and would be glad to return someday. Yes, price per night is high (also depends on a season), but much less than you would pay in a hotel with similar luxury - where room would almost certainly be smaller. Value is therefore good in otherwise very expensive city to stay.

Highly recommended.

We had a very enjoyable stay, the rooms were clean, thoughtfully decorated and spacious. The block is located in an architecturally interesting area with easy and quick access to mid and down-town by the nearby subway station or by scenic bus route down 5th Avenue. Fellow guests were equally impressed, we recommend Mount Morris House as a great place to stay in New York.

Superb accommodations: great breakfasts, clean rooms, close to subways, nice restaurants and taverns a nearby walk away...best of all were the friendly hosts (as was all of Harlem)...
thanks Dimitri and Vasili...we will gladly return!

Me and my 80-year old Mom picked this wonderful B&B for our 6-nights stay
in October 2011. We could not have picked a better place!

Every nice word you read about this place on Tripadvisor is correct - this
is a true gem in New York!

The hosts Vasili and Dimitri are the simply the best B&B hosts you can imagine. They are so sweet, thoughtful and attentive to their guests needs. They have lived in New York for many years and happily shares tips and information about restaurants, sightseeing, how to get around, shopping - whatever!

We stayed in the Sage suite on the second floor, my Mom in the queen size bed and me in
the sofabed. We were both equally comfortable.
The room is large, by New York standards I would say huge, and very nicely decorated.
There is a roomy bathroom, with bathtub.

The whole house is wonderfully decorated. Dimitri loves antiques, and it shows.

The breakfast is served at 08:30 every morning. All guests are seated around one
big table, which inspires to nice conversations. I got a flash-back in my head, from my backpacking days long time ago, when I used to stay at simple guesthouses around world, meeting people from all over.
This B&B is like a backpacking-deluxe-place for grown-ups.

The breakfast itself was excellent. There is always coffee, tea, orange juice, toast, fruit salad and yoghurt and warm, addictive croissants. There will also be a special treat every day, like pancakes, eggs, omelette or bagels.

We really enjoyed staying in Harlem and always felt completely safe, also at night. The area where Mount Morris House is located is very quiet. Like others have said before, it is fast and easy to go downtown. We took the bus a few times on 5th Ave all the way down, alongside Central Park. It is a nice ride, but the underground is faster.
We were surprised that people were so friendly,
as soon as we entered the bus, or underground train, no matter how full, someone would always offer my Mom their seat.

We totally loved Mount Morris House, and I would not even consider staying anywhere else on the next trip.

Thank you Dimitri & Vasili for making our stay so special!

My sister and I just spent a week in the terracotta suite, and absolutely adored it. Vasili and Dimitri have done a beautiful job restoring the house and making it into a comfortable and welcoming B&B. They are charming and knowledgeable, always ready to give tips on local restaurants or information about the china in the dining room, if asked. As everyone before me has said, the breakfasts are wonderful and so is the company. As to the location: If you'd prefer to stay in an actual neighborhood rather than a hotel where all you'll see is other tourists, this is the place for you. The subway is about three blocks away, and the bus stops about half a block from the house. We were perfectly comfortable walking around after dark (DO try the Red Rooster, and Amateur Night at the Apollo Theater!). We will definitely be back (if we can get a room...)

We always use Trip Advisor when searching for accommodation and this is how we found out about this little gem.
We have just returned to NZ after a 10 day stay at Mount Morris B&B in NY city. What can I say that hasn't been said before. I can't, it's all true what you read and or hear about this wonderful B&B.. Dimitri and Vasili are fantastic hosts, very helpful and convivial. They have a beautiful home which is close to transport (both buses and metro) in a quiet area so having a great night's sleep is easy. even in NY.
They are within walking distance of some good restaurants especially Cedric's Would we stay there again of course, there wasn't anything we could fault, were unhappy about. and or would change.

Room Tip: The room we stayed in was large, has a separate dressing area & wardrobe. Ensuite was also large
