My partner and I checked in for a Thursday and Friday night stay in June 2014. I had stayed in nearby hotels but this was the first time at the Doubletree Chelsea.

I will give some further detailed commentary, but the summary observation is that this hotel does a great job at delivering on the 3 star experience it is shooting for.

We arrived at the hotel around 1:00 PM. It was before check in time, but our room was available. The experience was fairly easy. It has a small lobby, but two representatives could still work on check ins at the same time. We were given room 2206 which corresponded to our king bed, high floor, Empire State Bldg view reservation.

There are two elevators and lots of floors, so at peak times you may have to wait before one arrives. That the nature of many of the hotels of this part of Chelsea. Hotels have a few rooms per floor with lots of floors. The wait is nothing too terrible.

Our room was exactly what I expected. Like most rooms in NY, it is small. The bathroom was just inside the room to the right with a short hall leading to the main area. Doubletree provided a desk, chest of drawers, closet, two night stands, lamps, and a bed. Everything was clean and in good working condition - appearing somewhat newer. The flat screen TV is on top of the chest of drawers and had great picture quality. The bed was sturdy and comfortable.

We did indeed have the promised view of the Empire State Bldg, however, it was still several blocks away. The view was neither a plus or minus for me (I've been in it many times before). The high floor did allow for lots of natural light through the window though.

The location was great. We had friends to visit further south of us and some attractions to see north of us. 29th street between 6th and 7th avenue was a great middle ground. The subway from upper west down to lower Manhattan was very close by. For those of us who like to walk, we got as far as the Metropolitan Museum before tiring out.

We spent most our days on the move about NY, so made limited use of the shared hotel facilities. There is a nice outdoor patio with 4 large umbrella covered tables in front of the hotel. It was surprisingly a pleasant place to sit, have a coffee, and rest for a few minutes. It was easy to forget I was sitting in NYC. We did not eat the hotel breakfast included in our room nor use the fitness facilities.

I would definately stay here again. There are several good choices in this same area, but if the Doubletree is competitive on rate it will get my business.

Room Tip: Higher floor rooms get better natural light and some have views of Empire State Bldg

The staff were all very nice and friendly. I like to put away my clothes even if I'm staying for a short time, so I found that the there weren't enough drawers and not enough area to put the toiletries in the bathroom...I really liked the waitresses at the restaurant were all so sweet and hardworking.

Arrived early & able to check in & given a cookie too. Staff friendly & helpful, especially on our last day, our bags were kept & they arranged a town car to take us to Newark airport.
3 ladies in our group. We booked Two Double Beds with Empire State View room. View was OK. Probably not worth paying the extra for. Rooms are small but we weren't in them much. Beds are not massive but my sister & I managed 5 nights in one bed without too much discomfort. Overall room was clean, but my Mum commented on the bathroom not being very clean; built up piles of hair in the corners. Beds were made every day. Fresh towels if we wanted.
Cannot comment on the food as didn't eat anything from the hotel but when I had a look in the bar/restaurant area it looked spacious & and inviting. Area outside for you to sit and have a drink.
Location was excellent, although I really don't think you can go wrong in NYC. It's about a 20min walk to The High Line & a couple of blocks from two different subways. Taxi to Greenwich area was about $10. I thought the surrounding area was fine, a few bars & restaurants nearby & we walked one night back from Theatre District, so not too far.
We were on the 19th floor & only experienced a delayed waiting times for the lifts at peak times in morning, approx. 8.30-9.30am time on two occasions. Otherwise no problems.

We stayed four nights last week, and we were pleased with our stay. The lobby is small which is definitely noticeable when the front desk is busy with guests. We had a king suite, and we found it on the smaller side for a suite. Not a big deal. The staff we encountered were all helpful. Cedric (bartender) was fun to talk with at the end of long days/nights of being out in NYC. We didn't encounter any elevator issues - guess we were lucky as we were on a higher floor. The hotel was very busy with guests for our entire stay, but we didn't have any issues.

The room was clean, quiet and definitely met our needs.

The location was great. The hotel isn't in the most glamorous of spots (middle of 29th between 6th and 7th - fairly nondescript), but it is very central. We walked to quite a few places throughout our stay. The proximity to Penn Station and other subway lines was great as well. This made it easy to hop on the subway and get to the places we wanted to go. I will say that we never felt uneasy or unsafe at any time with the location.

We would definitely consider returning to this hotel the next time we visit NYC.

The rooms were a bit small, but well designed and clean, and a fair value for the money. The staff was very accommodating and pleasant. The location is close to Penn Station, which is convenient for us, and is also convenient for where we want to visit in NYC. We will stay here next time we visit the city.
