“Great Value”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 24 November 2012

A friend and I just stayed at this hotel over Thanksgiving. I think this hotel is a super value. When researching hotels near the parade route, this one popped up at half the price of many others. It is only 3 - 4 blocks from the beginning of the parade so it worked out perfectly. The rooms were spacious, the beds were extremely comfortable and since it is located in a residential neighborhood, it was very quiet. It had a small kitchen with a microwave and fridge which was a pleasant surprise. The only negative was that the bathroom was very small but that was not a big deal especially at the price we were paying for the room. I would definitely stay there again.

Whenever I visit NYC, I prefer to stay in my old neighborhood, the upper west side. Over the past couple of decades, I've stayed at one hotel I love, but can't truly afford (The Lucerne), and some others that I would not recommend. So, after much deliberation, I decided to try the Milburn. It's not perfect (the one ice machine is located in the basement), but it's clean and comfortable, with free WiFi (you have to get a new code for it every day or so, but it's only a minor inconvenience) and a free continental breakfast with decent coffee.

My friend and I had a standard room with two beds on the 14th floor in the back of the hotel, and could monitor the impending arrival of Hurricane Sandy by watching the movement of trees and grasses on the roof gardens of the rear apartments we faced. Our room was large enough to easily accommodate two people who are not a couple, and the bathroom was a decent size. We had a tiny kitchenette (sink, microwave, fridge, cupboards & a small selection of dishes and silverware). This turned out to be a magnificent bonus, because we were able to stock up on groceries in case we were unable to leave the hotel for a couple of days or more. And what a luxury to be able to shop in nearby Beacon Wine & Spirits, Citarella, Fairway, and, of course, Zabar's.

As it turned out, our 6-night stay was extended to nine because of Hurricane Sandy. Luckily, the hotel let us keep our room at the same reasonable rate we were already paying, they never lost power even during the worst of the storm, and the staff was always courteous and upbeat. I felt well taken care of, and I loved that our fellow guests came from all over the globe. If you want an authentic NYC experience in a great location, you can't go wrong with the Milburn. I will happily stay there again.

We were looking for a room that would comfortably take 5 people and be close to the Lincoln centre. This hotel was perfect for both. Also great for central park or 5th ave shopping. Its an old world hotel and a little tired but very clean and safe and on a quiet street so you could get a good nights sleep. Our room had one room with two double beds and a second sitting room with a sofa bed (double). The beds were very comfortable and spotlessly clean. The room had plenty of towels and toiletries and a doc for the iphone which was handy. Free internet access was great for the kids. Breakfast the next day (which is complimentary) was busy but the staff we so friendly it made up for it. The breakfast was great. tea/coffee, cereal, bagels, cake and danish plus fleshly made to order giant waffles plus plenty of jams, cream cheese and bananas for the breads. far exceeded my expectations. The hotel is in a great location. We got a taxi to the Lincoln centre but walked home when we realised it was an easy walk back.

Hello. My family and I stayed a week at the Milburn hotel in July, 2012 and we loved the place!!! We had 2 spacious rooms (living room and bedroom) enough for 4 people. The room had a kitchennette, which was a big help. The room photos on the hotel website are exactly true and we loved them. The price for a week of stay was quite reasonable for 4 people. The hotel staff was excellent, very helpful with all our needs (extra towels, plates, etc.). I must say that we felt SAFE staying at the hotel. The hotel is favored by families so we did not have teenagers running around, so it made it quiet in hallways. Continental breakfast was good enough to start the day. One thing that was a surprise: if you decide to do laundry, you need to pay $8 for washing and $2-4 for drying, which I think was pricy. You can find a laundry place a few blocks away for $2 to wash clothing. The area around the hotel was friendly: between 2 subway stations (76 and 79, I believe). There are 3 big grocery supermarkets 2-3 blocks away (one of them is a Trader's Joe) and lots of eateries near the subway. I would definitely recommend this hotel to everyone and would definitely stay there again in my next visit to NY.

Room Tip: Ask for an upper floor room facing the front entrance (it is a quiet street).

In late September, my wife and I spent 4 enjoyable nights in a 12th floor suite with a microwave, fridge and separate sink. The kitchenette had 2 fork and knife sets, as well as cups and plates for two people

Our suite was quiet and we never heard any of our neigbors.. Our windows had a western exposure so the rooms became warm in the afternoon. The air conditioner worked efficiently to cool our suite. Our suite was not posh but it was well-maintained and clean.

The hotel provided a good breakfast with fresh apples and bananas and REAL NY bagels. As others have commented, the dining room is small so it is difficult to find a table.

The hotel desk staff was pleasant. While waiting for the elevator I met a permanent resident of the hotel. There are long-term residents of the Milburn.

The are subway stations in close proximity both north and south of the hotel. Trader Joe's and Fairway Market are south of the hotel near the 72nd Street station. It was a pleasant walk between that station and the Milburn. We almost felt like residents of the Upper East Side.

Our queen bed mattress sank. While the two rooms of the suite were spacious, the bathroom was cramped with barely any counter space. The toilet lid had to be kept closed so objects would not fall in the bowl. In spite of these negatives, we would stay at the Milburn again.

The staff to boot was always courteous and helpful when accommodating our needs. The continental breakfast is as good as any other but would suggest getting down there earlier than 8ish since the toast/bread and pastries go fast! The grounds were clean, though older and worn in areas, still good condition considering. The location is great! And Viand restaurant is around the corner which has a little bit of everything for variety (and was suggested by staff). We stayed for 3 nights and have no complaints on comfort, staff or cleanliness!

Room Tip: Room 1305 is a suite with balcony that was pretty nice to enjoy,...even during Hurricane Sandy.

Its 2 years since our first stay at the Milburn, Great location some very good Deli's around the corner, Starbucks just 1/2 block away on Broadway. Rooms cleaned up with a good coat of paint, but our room on the third floor only had a bathroom the size of a broom cupboard. Unless you were down to breakfast by 7.00am it was difficult to get a table.Having said that the staff were good, rooms clean, internet available, plus you have the basics in the room for tea, coffee frig and micro wave. Bus on the corner outside and 2 blocks to the subway and an easy walk to Central Park. We enjoyed our stay apart from the broom cupboard called a bathroom. 4 nights this time, prices are starting to move up a little but that's common in NY Also a couple of great reasonable priced restaurants just on the corner and across on Broadway.

Room Tip: As mention maybe check the room first to see the size of the bathroom
