The hotel is great! Excellent location, super friendly and helpful staff. Rooms are clean - although we had no fridge, microwave or coffee pot, there were plenty of places nearby to get coffee. Security is great...ensuring anyone had a room key before being allowed upstairs. View was amazing.

The service at this hotel is horrendous! After having a glowing review for this hotel everything changed when they took money from my account for damages that were not there!
When I spoke to someone, I was told that the room was more than likely damaged before we stayed in there. Making me think that this is a regular occurrence. The supervisor/ hotel manager has refused to call us back and everyone I have spoken to can not explain the charges and at one point I was told that there were not any.

I'd advise people to check their rooms before they check in. I am so disappointed and this has really ruined my experience.

We stayed for four nights at the New Yorker from Aug 2 - Aug 6. It is a really good hotel with a great location right by Madison Square Garden, Penn Station and the shops on 34th Street. I would say it's the ideal hotel for visitors travelling from Newark Airport. The hotel itself is well equipped with a business centre (so you can print off your boarding pass in advance) and a good fitness suite. There is a decent bar and a half-decent diner attached. By New York standards, our room was a decent size. We were allocated room 3717 which has the an amazing view of the Empire State Building and the skyscrapers of Midtown! The staff were most helpful in all respects. If you have an evening flight back, you can leave your bags at the hotel for $2 per bag. Nearby eats? For breakfast I would recommend the Skylight Diner on 34th and 9th (one block west of the hotel), and on 34th by the hotel is a branch of Five Guys burgers. The subway is right by the hotel too. Not far from the hotel is a branch of Whole Foods at 7th and 24th, so you can stock up on cheap water & snacks. Top class!

Room Tip: East side rooms - great view. The higher up the better.

This is a quintessential NYC hotel on a budget. I felt the stay was well worth the price paid (<$200/night) given the location which is <2 blocks to multiple subway stations, nearby times square, empire state building, etc. When we stayed it was under construction with scaffolding but they kept disturbances to a minimum. The service was great, the rooms were stocked with nice toiletries and quality amenities, free Wifi, and comfortable beds. We did not feel it was overly noisy (you are in Manhattan - it's loud). Yes, the rooms are small compared to some of the more spacious and sprawling hotels. Even when renting by the night you pay for square footage in New York! However, with two of us we had just enough room for one large suitcase and a carry-on. The distance from the foot of the bed to the wall is under 3 feet, and the shower would not be comfortable for anyone over about 5'10", but I wasn't in NYC to shower and watch television. Overall it was a stay worth the value and a serious contender when looking for a great location in NYC. I could have paid well over $500 for a comparable location in a different hotel, but this one met our needs and we had a great stay.

Room Tip: Higher floors and rooms away from the elevator minimize traffic noise

We came in by train and this was 1 block from the train station - could not be more convenient. It is a few blocks from Empire State Building. Walgreens right across the street. Couple nice restaurants on the ground level. The rooms are small but that was expected. Staff nice and friendly. It was clean and comfortable and we certainly felt safe and taken care of. Pricey bit not for NY to be in that area.

We had a great stay at the New Yorker. Knowing it was an older hotel, I really couldn't complain about only having a single bath/shower in our suite. Other than that, I loved staying here. You can't beat the location. I was able to walk out the front door, hang a left, and be at an entrance to Penn Station. The Empire State Building is just a few blocks away, not to mention Madison Square Garden is just down the street.

I found the staff to be very friendly and helpful. Kudos especially to the cleaning staff who went out of their way to make sure we were comfortable and taken care of.

Room Tip: We had a suite on the 21st floor. It had windows on 3 sides and was quite roomy. The only downside w...
