Gild Hall, a Thompson Hotel
Ranked #34 of 473 Hotels in New York City
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed 3 October 2013 via mobile

I've stayed at well over 75 hotels in the city all 3 + times each and this is one of the best. First of all, the location is prefect. Your no more than a 5 min walk to basically every subway line that runs through the city. 2 stations are a block away. The Fulton station is an express stop for each line which is nice if you need to get back to hotel quick. Gild Hall is is in a quiet but busy part of city. Nice little area for any traveler. You are a 5 min walk away from the Sea Port, Brooklyn Bridge, Wall Street area, Stone Street... And you could walk to Battery Park if you wanted. There is 24 hr grocery store across the street that has every thing you need for your stay.

The rooms are nice and big. 18 x 20 with a king bed in the room. Very very clean and modern. Probably the cleanest rooms I've ever stayed in NYC. Have a mini bar in the room so you can put your stuff in. TV's in room are new. Nice 47 inch in the room I stayed in each time. Beds are very comfortable. Bathroom are super clean and modern as well. The doors are transparent like the reviews say which is a little odd but they match the interior of bathroom so I see why they designed it that way. No complaints really...
Hotel lobby is has a log cabin kinda feel but very unique. Not many hotels can pull it off, feels like your in a fancy hotel. .. well you are...
Service was great each time. Super friendly and helpful. Always smiling.

One of the best in the city no doubt! Excellent hotel!

Ended up at Gild Hall via a Hotwire deal. Normally when I book through Hotwire I prepare myself for a so-so room, but Gild Hall was a total pleasure. The room was spacious, not just for New York City standards, and very nicely appointed with modern furnishings and bedding. The bathroom was spotless and modern and something I'd love to have in my own home. Although I didn't interact very much with the staff, when I did my interactions were very pleasant and courteous.

If you have business in New York, even uptown, the location of the hotel is great. You're very close to the Fulton Street station, getting you anywhere you need to go in short order.

The only real negatives? Terrible cell reception, and no free wireless in the rooms, so I couldn't get much real work done. If they added free internet, this would be the perfect business hotel for me. Also, there is no in-room recycling, which seems to put Gild Hall behind the environmental practices of many of its competitors.

I stay here regularly for work and the staff is always incredibly accomodating and the rooms are always extremely clean. The location is excellent, with many subway options close by...There is nothing like staying at the Gild Hall for a special and satisfying experience.

Thanks to their staff for such excellent support!

We recently spent two nights at Gild House, mid-week. The hotel is clean, rooms are spacious for NYC, and staff couldn't be nicer. Word has it that rooms on the first five floors (or so) are nicer that those above (where we were). The lobby/restaurant/bar area looks nicer at night than in daylight. Lunch was delicious and reasonably priced.
The room's vibe was masculine, which may be their targeted audience. Decor is primarily black and white, with hard edges, and a black leather headboard complete with ornamental metal rings. Despite frosted glass, the interior bathroom space is clearly visible from the bedroom area. Very little privacy there.
Visitors have a choice of two condoms, priced at $8 each.

Room Tip: As noted above, the first five floors (approx) may have the better rooms. For a traveler uninterest...

My job requires a great deal of travel; too much according to my wife and children. Travelling and specifically hotel stays can become burdensome, tiring, and add to occupational pressures. This is not the case with Gild Hall.
The location is absolutely perfect for anyone conducting business in, or touring the financial district. Additionally, from downtown, access to entire subway system is ideal making citywide travel efficient.
The rooms at this hotel are reminiscent of European boutique hotel offerings and if within your budget, I would recommend a suite.
The hotel furnishings are a cool mix of chic/retro/ contemporary which combine to provide a great ambience.
The service is friendly and courteous. They go out of their way to assure you stay is a pleasant one. Thanks Esther!
The bar and restaurant offer a fantastic venue for dining and partaking in your favorite libation(s). Go for the house wine--- you will not be disappointed.
I look forward to my next trip and will certainly be staying with my friends at Gild Hall.

The rooms are very clean and the front desk is also very helpful. Moreover the hotel has a 2 floor bar area where you can enjoy drinks, play chess or checker or access the free wifi (wifi on room is extra). The AC was a bit loud and also the bathroom did not provide big privacy because of the nearly transparent (glass) wall/door. So I only giv 4 out of 5 points.
The location of the hotel is amazing. You can walk just a few minutes to Ground Zero, Wall Street, Battery Park, Pier 15. Also Brooklyn Bridge is not very far away. There were a lot of "business people" in the hotel, whereas we use the hotel as a holiday hotel.

Like many people, I've had my fair share of travel to NY for business. It's always been a challenge to find a nice place to stay, particularly within corporate budget restraints. Gild Hall delivered on many levels. Not only was it incredibly clean, comfortable, and quiet, but the decor was beautiful, the staff extremely friendly, and my meal from the hotel restaurant was delicious. I found myself with all the comforts of home, but taken up a notch since I was in a luxurious environment with a great meal I didn't have to cook. I also had the best night of sleep I've had since becoming a mom six months ago :-) I'll definitely look for Thompson Hotels for future travel.
