“Great stay during Hurricane Irene”
Reviewed 26 September 2011

My wife and I booked in for 3 nights at the end of August. Hurricane Irene extended our stay by an extra two! The service of the staff and their impromptu "we survived the Hurricane" party were excellent. The hotel is in an excellent location a short walk from Greenwich Village with a nearby subway stop. Lots of nearby sights (don't miss Chelsea Market) and places to eat. Would recommend this hotel for anyone visiting New York.

We stayed here for a week at the start of our three week USA trip. The location is excellent, just metres from the subway and a short walk to Greenwich Village. Lots of good eating places nearby. There was always coffee, tea and snacks available after a long day sightseeing and shopping. Staff were friendly and helpful. We purchased some beer and wine from a nearby store and would sit out in the garden every afternoon discussing where to dine. Chelsea Pines simply has much more personality than a hotel!

Room Tip: Rooms are small, but a suite gives you that little extra space to store shopping.

Stayed for 5 nights. Staff very helpful. Small and cozy. Clean. Good area. Walking distance to all interesting places in SoHo and Greenwich Village. Only stairs, no elevator, so its for the young and able.

We had a good time at Chelsea Pines. Great attention to detail. Lots of good local restaurants as well which were recommended by the hotel. A couple of downsides to the hotel: lots of stairs to climb, and also the wifi connection in the room was not good. Minor details though.

It was our first time in New York, but what a fabulous place to stay, right in the heart of the trendy meatpacking district of New York. Great restaurants all around the hotel, and the metro is located at the end of the street. The rooms were well appointed, with a film star team running through the hotel. The inclusion of breakfast in the price, in the courtyard to the rear of the hotel, a wonderful array of bagels and cereals amongst other things to start your day. All the staff were most helpful with recommendations and reserving tables at restaurants.

I have travelled to New York many times and stayed all over the city. Chelsea Pines stands out for its location (right in the heart of Chelsea and the West Village, steps away from Chelsea Market and the subway) and for its amazing hospitality. The staff is incredibly friendly and helpul. Upon checking in I was given a list of restaurant recommendations in the area and a map of the city, along with a few helpful tips about things to check out in the neighborhood. Every morning you are greeted with a tip sheet of recommended activities for the day. The kitchen and charming little courtyard are open thoughout the day, offering a very good complimenatry continental breakfast in the morning and a great place to stop and relax after a day out in the city. And charming co-owner Jay hosts a weekly wine & cheese reception, giving guests a chance to mix and mingle. I felt like I was visiting friends. Will definitely be back.

Room Tip: There are no elevators, so you might try requesting a room on a lower floor if available.

The Chelsea Pines Inn is boutique hotel/guest house in the old Meatpacking District of NY, an area that has blossomed into an eclectic mix of designer old and new. Now one of the haunts of the fashion pack, the quarter is packed full of restaurants (Japanese, Mexican, Italian, Asian fusion) and café bars, yet the area is surprisingly quiet at night.

A warm and friendly welcome greets all CPI guests as they arrive and although there is no lift, luggage is carried for you to your room without complaint! CPI has just 24 rooms. Larger deluxe rooms are on the first and second floors, double rooms on the 4th and 5th floors were around $ 220-250 per night including tax (September 2011). No family rooms but the small suite can accommodate three comfortably, The décor and naming of rooms reflects an interest in film stars of the golden 30s, 40s and 50s. The upper floor rooms are townhouse small, but reasonably well appointed with showers ensuite. (NB. No hairdryer which would be a useful extra if CPI could provide) . All rooms have A/C, and plenty of hot water morning and evening. There is free WiFi throughout and on the second floor, a business centre with free access to computers, the Internet and a printer (useful for airline boarding cards).

Breakfast is in a small bright café on the ground-floor. Guest are invited to help themselves to fresh orange juice, cranberry juice, muffins, bagels, ham, cheese, yoghurt, fresh fruit, tea, expresso and regular coffee, all of it included in the room rate. Throughout the day, tea, coffee, iced water (sparkling and still), milk and juice are available from the large fridge in the café – together with biscuits, fresh fruit and snacks that are constantly refreshed. At the back, there is a small terrace garden with tables and chairs – a nice place to sit out, often with Charlie Chaplin the resident cat for company!

Chelsea Pines Inn is a 5-10 minute cab ride from Penn Station and just steps away from the subway, making for easy access to mid-town, Central Park and the main museums. Rumel and others are happy to help out with suggestions of places to go and to eat – and there is always someone on hand to help.

For a relaxed and friendly welcome, the chance to explore a new neighbourhood, the Chelsea Pines Inn is hard to better. . It is only a couple of blocks away from the Highline walk and the last section is now open. The Highline is about an hour’s slow stroll from start to finish, the old railway line is landscaped with wildflowers and grasses – the perfect antidote to the hustle and bustle below– with views down and across the rooftops on one side and stretching away to the water on the other.

I was delighted with our short two-day stay at CPI. Here, people really want you to relax and enjoy your stay. I would happily return and/or recommend to friends. Two basic recommendations: book early if you can and if you have difficulty with steps, ask about rooms on the lower floors. (There are steps also down to the entrance) . You don’t have to be super-fit but the climb to the upper rooms will definitely get your heart pumping!

Room Tip: No lift to upper floors
