“Outstanding customer care”

This small hotel, on the edge of Greenwich Village, is rightly prized for its customer care and service, its high quality beds, and its quirky location. From the desk man who jumps out to carry your bags to your room (and refuses a gratuity) to the breakfast attendant who keeps seeing that more delicious foods are available (and complementary!) to the unobtrusive maids who both respect your privacy or hustle in to prepare the room while you are out to the free business computers to the ever-present chocolates at the front desk to the themed-rooms with their focus on Hollywood stars of the past, this is a charming hotel.

Some caveats: there is no elevator and the stairs are steep; the rooms are very tiny (ours was 8 foot by 27) with no place to set our luggage, a small shower only, a tiny television, and a quirky radiator; and the prices are high, even for New York, for such a small room.

Room Tip: If stairs are a problem, ask for a ground floor room. Most of the views will be poor. The rooms are...

We've stayed in NYC on numerous occasions and generally prefer to stay in different areas of the city to gather different experiences, but we've decided Chelsea Pines wins out for all future visits. This was our second visit here separated by several years and feel both the staff and location can't be beat.
As well..........the breakfast bar just off the lobby provides a excellent start to the day, with a large variety of quality food to satisfy most anyone (love the cappuccino machine!).
I appreciate there is tea or coffee available (and cookies) after coming in after a long day of walking.
The WIFI worked great, and though we didn't need it, think it's great there is a computer available for guest use.
It's worth mentioning that this all comes with the price of the room, with no 'extra' charges, so often incurred at hotels. I truly appreciate that!
Jay and his staff do a wonderful job making you feel welcome.
Thanks to everyone at Chelsea Pines for contributing to a fabulous visit in your fabulous city!
We'll be back.

We visited Chelsea Pines Inn at the beginning of November celebrating our wedding anniversary. Having never been to New York before I knew that I didn't want to stay in a high rise chain hotel. I found CPI on trip advisor and after reading all the amazing reviews booked our stay!

What can I say....from the moment we arrived we found the staff extremely friendly and helpful without being over the top. Nothing was too much trouble, from giving us restaurant recommendations to getting around. CPI is in a great location, a very short walk from the subway making Uptown or Downtown easily accessible. The surrounding area of the Greenwich village is lovely and nice to walk around as is the nearby Chelsea Market.

Each morning the breakfast was plentiful with a good choice , constantly replenished, a great way to start a busy day!

We hope to return to New York soon with our children and will definitely stay here.

Room Tip: Rooms at the back would be quieter

The hotel is cute, well located and the staff is very nice, helpful and friendly... this is certainly the major advantage of this hotel.
Unfortunately, I got a room closed to the kitchen and it was very noisy... you could hear the staff preparing the breakfast and talking (the owner of the hotel speaks very loudly) very early in the morning. So I could never sleep after 6 am despite wearing ear plugs.
The room was also very dark and smelly.
I don't know how are the other room but I would recommend the Sophia Loren one at all... especially if you expect to sleep a little bit in the morning and are sensitive to funky smells.

Room Tip: Avoid the Sophia Loren room it's very noisy being closed to the kitchen.

I stayed here between 21 and 24 October 2013 as part of a round-the-world tour. And it was unforgettable - for all the best reasons.

Jay and his team have made a splendidly eccentric and welcoming haven deep in the hustle and bustle of New York City. Everyone's so friendly, helpful and informative - they know all the best places to go, all the good places to eat and drink and how to get there. It's almost like a 'secret' New York - all the insider information you need to fill your stay in this amazing city with surprises and smiles.

The hotel has an 'old movie star' theme which is great fun (I was in the Ann-Margret Room!) and gives the place real interest and personality. The rooms are clean and comfortable - and you'll get any help you need to mount the staircase(s) to get to yours - there's no lift.

The breakfast buffet is sumptuous - look out for the speciality breads baked each day by Jay himself - and there's a lovely private garden at the back.

There are some gems worth visiting nearby as well. Chelsea Market is breathtaking and the High Line elevated walkway has an entry point just along the street. A few steps in the other direction brings you to the subway station and all the activity of central New York and West Village - shops, restaurants, bars and cafes. If in any doubt, ask a member of the team and listen to what they say! They know what they're talking about. Thanks, Louis!

I'll never forget my all-too-short stay here. I've been longing to go back ever since I left!

We have just spent 13 days here (in a suite) and it is a great place to stay in New York. The location is excellent, very close to a subway station, interesting area, lots of restaurants and shops close by.
The staff are charming and extremely helpful. They go out of their way to help you with advice and anything you might need. The breakfasts are excellent, not the "full English" type but plenty of variety and it's all self-serve.And a nice way to meet up with fellow guests. The rooms are big and the bathrooms are a good size. There is a 'business' room where you can use computers and free wifi throughout the hotel.
And fresh roses in our room - beautiful touch! We were made to feel very welcome and looked after.Highly recommend satying here.

Room Tip: We stayed in Room 501 which overlooks the street - occasionally noisy but it is New York!

Wishful thinking that our home could be as good as Chelsea Pines. So clean, so tidy, so comfortable and just so good. Jay and his staff have just the right approach to make you feel you are having the greatest experience without being obtrusive, they are all your friend! The room was listed as deluxe and everything about it was just that, a full size fridge, with complimentary water, fresh white roses and a welcome message. Simply wonderful. The only down side for us was that we were on floor five and the hotel was full and there is no lift. It would suit younger folk but we are both over 67 with dodgy knees, but I am not letting this detract from my 5* review. Yes there's a small breakfast room too, but this was no issue and the range of food available was excellent. A real jewel in a great crown.
Enjoy!

Room Tip: choose a lower floor if your legs or knees are an issue, but don't miss this place
