This was our second time staying at the Chelsea Pines Inn, and once again it did not disappoint. It has good reason to be listed in Trip Advisor's top ten hotels in New York, and I would definitely recommend it to other people.

We opted for a slightly cheaper room for this visit, and so naturally it was smaller than the Deluxe room we stayed in before. It was still perfectly comfortable and well furnished though, and there was enough room to have two suitcases out on the floor without needing to climb over them. Even in the smaller rooms, the Chelsea Pines has high quality furniture and fixtures, so it was more than satisfactory to us, particularly as you wouldn't expect to spend all that long in your hotel room when on a holiday to New York.

The staff were as friendly as last time, and in particular the owner Jay can never do enough for you. They even seemed to remember us from our stay in 2008, which made us feel very welcome.

I can't fault the location as it is convenient for exploring Chelsea and the Village, and there is a subway station just on the corner for venturing further afield. It's even the right subway line for getting back to JFK, so I couldn't ask for much more.

The Business Centre is a welcome addition since our last stay, as you can check your emails (and Facebook) easily, and we never had to wait for a free computer.

If I had to find one thing to criticise, it was that the pump on the air conditioner in our room seemed bizarrely loud. However, even though it was hot and sunny while we there our room was shady and cool, so we didn't actually need the air conditioner on anyway. Problem solved!

Oh and this isn't a criticism, just a reminder - there is no lift here and the hotel is spread over several floors, so be prepared to take the stairs! As long as you know that in advance I don't see that as a problem though.

This will definitely be our first choice of hotel for our next visit to New York and I heartily recommend it to you.

Thanks to Jay and all his staff!

I've never before felt compelled to write one of these reviews, but after our recent stay at the CPI, I felt I must. From the personal efforts of the owner to accomodate us in his fully booked Inn on short notice, to the knowledgable staff who were so willing to share their city (thanks Troy, for the restaurant advice!), to the amusing and informative "Chelsea Morning" newsletters that are slipped under your door every morning, our recent stay at the Chelsea Pines Inn was perhaps our best hotel experience ever, anywhere, at any price. This quiet inn is ideally located for a great downtown Manhattan experience. A Classic Hollywood theme is employed to great effect in decorating the rooms, which we found to be spotlessly clean and fresh, and well appointed with very comfortable beds and effective air conditioning and plumbing. The breakfast room is an excellent place to start your day, and the adjoining garden patio is a lovely place to sit and take a break from the intensity of the city. There is no elevator, but anyone who can negotiate a couple of flights of stairs should have no problem. The friendly, inclusive attitude of the management and staff made my wife and I feel as though we were staying with friends; indeed, we feel as if we have made friends with our stay at this wonderful inn. The Chelsea Pines will definitely be our go-to place for further trips to New York, and we would not hesitate in recommending it to anyone.

Staff is friendly as my own family. The rooms are decorated with handpicked movie posters, a must for film addicts. It's perfectly located for taking a walk to Meatpacking District and The Villages. The offered breakfast is way more than just "continental". The new business center is really helpful for planning the stay, shows and onward travelling. The garden is so inviting and could get some nicer furniture for lounging.

My husband and I stayed at the Chelsea Pines Inn for a week and were very happy with our choice. We booked at the last minute and after trawling through web sites finding ever more expensive hotels I found Chelsea Pines Inn. The thing that made it ideal for us was the friendly local character. Jay and his staff were always helpful and through in their tips. Their local knowledge and research was comprehensive and made our trip much more enjoyable than it would otherwise have been. What you read in the reviews is true that without a lift there are a lot of stairs (we were on the fifth floor) But the room was spotless, quiet and spacious so if you have legs it is worth the walk. The bed was comfortable and the linen was lovely as were the toiletries. The small courtyard out the back was also a wonderful refuge.

We stayed at Chelsea Pines Inn for a week and it really was a fantastic base from which to experience New York. Quite apart from the location - which is great (literally metres from 14th street metro), Jay and his team were exceptional hosts and made us feel very much at home from the moment we walked through the door. Our Susan Hayward-themed room, while cosy for two 6,2" men, was clean and quiet and serviced daily. The Inn offers free internet and complimentary continental breakfasts which were great...beautiful pastries, coffee, juices and cereals which can be enjoyed from the courtyard. All the staff had fantastic knowledge of the city and were very accomodating in assisting us with theatre tickets, directions and advice. If you are looking for great value in New York, and a relaxed, accessible and friendly experience which is just removed from the hustle of midtown, you can't go past the hetero-friendly Chelsea Pines Inn!!

I found this place through Trip Advisor and could not be more happy. My mom and I came for a girls weekend and this location was so perfect. The hotel staff were friendly and more importantly helpful. They also gave tips of restaurants and places to shop that always delivered. The rooms were clean and continential breakfast a perfect way to start the day.
