We stayed at Chelsea Pines for the second time over the Christmas holiday and enjoyed our seven days there. Jay (the owner) and staff are friendly and eager to help you have a pleasant stay with them and in New York City. I love that Jay sends out a personal email following your stay and can recount conversations you had and names of those in your party. He's either got an amazing memory or he takes notes! Either way, it's a nice touch and makes it feel like you've just been visiting good friends .

We arrived very early in the morning on a cold December day and just wanted to leave our bags. The bags were taken and we were urged to come in, get warm and have breakfast with them. To our surprise, our suite on the fifth floor was ready for us as we finished breakfast. Speaking of breakfast, we really appreciate that they offer a very nice choice of breakfast items including yogurt, cereal, bagels, fresh fruit, sweet rolls and warm beverages. With the cost of dining out in New York, this is a definite added value to the price of your room. On the last day of our stay our flight was delayed by several hours because of the Dec. 26 blizzard. Again, our hosts were very gracious and invited us to hang out at the hotel after checkout so that we could stay warm, and enjoy goodies from the snacks they serve all day instead of slogging off to wait at the airport.

As others have pointed out, the location is terrific. It's out of the hustle of midtown, but has easy access to the subway and has great places to eat and interesting things to do right in the neighborhood. We appreciate the daily newsletter that is slipped under your door in the morning. We learned about places to eat and things to see and do that we might otherwise have missed. The restaurants on Cornelia Street was the great newsletter find this time.

The rooms are clean and decor is quirky as others have mentioned. More space for luggage would be nice, but in the rooms we have stayed in, there were closets to stash to suitcases in and we used the dressers to hold our stuff. Part of the secret is to travel light! We appreciated the refrigerators that were in each of the rooms we occupied. We think the prices are reasonable for New York and especially so, if you can catch one of their specials.

I would like to suggest that a few more hooks or an extra towel rack be installed in the rooms where more than two people stay. If the hotel wants to encourage the environmentally friendly practice of using towels for more than one day, more towel hanging devices are needed.

A final note of thanks to Troy and other staff who were out shoveling snow on into the night and early in the morning so that guests could get in and out of the hotel during and after the blizzard. It was such a nice place to return to on those fabulous, cold, snowy days we were there. We would definitely come back.

We booked with Chelsea Pines based on the reviews from Trip Advisor and were not let down. An amazing hotel in a great location. Jay, Al, the managers and staff really made our stay the best it could be and were on hand to offer advice for places to go, things to see, where to eat. Just about everything you could need. They even helped us book our travel around the rest of America from recommending how best to get about, where to rent a car for a good price and lots of other advice and research. They really did go above and beyond to help us in our preparation and because of them we had an incredible few weeks. We even booked with them again for the end of our trip because the hotel really was perfect.

Chelsea Pines is like staying in a Boutique hotel without the pretension and cost, crossed with a friends house. It always feels relaxed and friendly. The rooms are wonderful, we stayed in a superior standard and a standard during our stays and both were exceptional. Very roomy with great bathrooms and huge comfy beds. The decor of the classic film stars running through the rooms brought them to life and adds to the hotels quirky personality. Every morning a news letter was posted under the door with an update of things to do and what was happening, a fantastic touch that I have never encountered anywhere else, and one that helps you make the most of your stay.

The kitchen area and breakfast was great, fresh bagels and home made bread every day along with fruit and cereal and much more. Having breakfast in the garden every morning was a great way to start the day and sets you up for a day of exploring New York.

The location is fantastic. Chelsea and Greenwich Village are on your doorstep and are a world away from the tourist centred Times Square. Great places to eat and shop and wonderful things to see like the High Line Park, or Chelsea Food Market. There are a thousand things to do near by that feel like the real New York. And the hotel is a minute away from the subway for when you do want to go to Central Park or tick off the standard tourist attractions, and makes getting to and from the airport inexpensive, quick and simple.

Although the rooms and location are amazing it really is the people that make this hotel what it is, and of course Charlie the cat. I have stayed in New York a number of times in a number of different locations and this is by far the best place I have stayed. This is my home in New York now and I can't wait for my next visit. Book with them, you won't be disappointed.

We had read good things about this place, but we always are a bit suspect that things will life up to their hype. We were pleased that all the things we read turned out to be accurate.

We were greeted promptly and in a friendly manner. Our request for a top floor room was honored (even if it did mean we had to talk up to the fifth floor all the time!), the room was clean and well laid out.

The breakfast/snack area was spotless, welcoming and well appointed - coffee/tea/snacks - and the breakfast (included in our room rate) was great.

It was a close walk to the High-Line park (GREAT!) and the other attractions around Chelsea. We weren't familiar with this neighborhood, but it was a delightful find.

We'll be back!

A wonderful group of hardworking people in a fantastic establishment! My colleague and I came for business but would visit again for pleasure. Easily located in the bustle of Manhattan, where every variety of food, fashion, entertainment, and transportation can be reasonably found. The staff was courteous, knowledgeable, and eclectically delightful. Computer accommodations were on the same floor as our pseudo personal iconic room that over looked an actual back yard and little dining area, where breakfast was made fresh and timely every morning. We left the City and Chelsea Pines with an experience that absolutely rocked.

My wife and I stayed at the Chelsea Pines for 9 nights just before xmas last year. The experience was brilliant from start to finish, and we can't recommend it enough.

The location is magic. There is a subway right outside, but there are so many brilliant spots within walking distance too that you won't always need it. All of the staff are helpful and friendly, and genuinely want to make sure you have a great time in NY. All of their recommendations were great, from food to nightlife to activities. The rooms are always spotless and have a welcoming feel about them - NY is a brilliant city and you can literally lose track of time exploring - but it was great to know we had somewhere comfortable and friendly to come home to.

Would happily stay here again!

fab location, friendly staff, beautifully clean rooms and very good value. visited with 3 friends for a NYC reunion & shopfest. quirky rooms with hollywood themes, not huge but bigger than the Hudson!. generous extras such as free wifi, printers & computer access, cookies & drinks available all day and breakfast until 10am. charlie the cat likes cuddles! Valentine cookies delivered to all the rooms on the day was cute and appreciated. daily newsletters tell you about the area and things to do. would definitely stay again. location was perfect for us - close to all the best independent shops, thrift stores, chelsea market and some great bars and restaurants. we enjoyed a great lunch at the Standard Grill. taxis uptown cost around $12 - same as the subway.
