Description: Welcome to the nanking restaurant to experience the hospitality of this ancient city of China ! Nanking is a city about equal distance from Canton and Peking. In 1842, after nanking was captured by the British, Sir Henry pottinger signed the nanking treaty. What followed thereafter was an era where various eating places opened up for visitors to enjoy the hospitality of this region. The food was modified to suit the palette of the visitors to entice them to come back to these eating places. This fusion cuisine became very popular. It is our humble endeavor at nanking Restaurant to bring you the same historical fusion taste, and hospitality from ancient China. We extend a very warm welcome to you and will make every effort to make your visit enjoyable and memorable.

“Great Thai choice AND not judged by our appearance!”
Reviewed 31 May 2014

Thai eateries are something that , for us, are often hit or miss . Either great or not worth the trip. This one was not only great but gets kudos for something else: Hubby and I stumbled upon this restaurant after returning from a 3 hour bike ride . We had sweat heavily , were in biking apparel and no doubt, stunk! We wanted to pick out a place to dine that night before a Broadway show we were to attend and were browsing menus posted outside establishments to make a decision. The manager of Nanking stepped outside, greeted us and offered us a seat inside right then in spite of our appearance. He told us our appearance didn't matter, we were welcome to dine with them! What makes this statement particularly striking is this: this is a beautiful, upscale place that could easily have been "snobbish", but there wasn't a trace of that!. Anyway, out of respect for the other diners and establishment itself, we chose to return later after we were bathed and in more appropriate attire. This is in the heart of the theatre district so it would make for a great pre-show meal. The food was attractively displayed on the plate, the portions were generous, food delicious and service attentive without being intrusive. Affordable too by NYC standards!!!!Magnificent dining experience!Great for people watching too!

I've just been back from a spur of the moment visit to Nanking and have been sick.
It was vile. Service was rubbish, no please of thank you.
We both ordered a light dish of garlic spicy vegetable noddles.
They came out in pudding bowls, like you might have a left over portion at home in.
I am 99% sure the 'noddles' were actually italian spaghetti?!?!
The vegetables consisted of, sliced onion, grated carrot and sliced spring onion. There were no other vegetables.
The fake noodles were sticky (like pasta can get).
We didn't finish it.
Because on holiday, didn't want to cause a scene, or pay the $38 bill, but we did just to get out.
$38 for two bowls of imposter noddles with a rationing of lame veg, 1 beer and 1 lemonade.
I can only imagine they stay open because their customers were the same as us.

“Completely tasteless”
Reviewed 6 May 2014

The lunch time offer was the main draw of this restaurant and whilst in NY myself and my husband decided to give it a go. Sadly this was a mistake. The chicken and sweetcorn soup to start was extremely bland. We both opted for the red thai curry for our main, the curry was very brightly coloured and and like the soup had no flavour to it at all. Service was okay but we were never asked how our food was which says it all really. Perhaps other food on the menu is better however this was by far the worst red thai curry I have ever eaten.

“Avoid - Much Better Options”
Reviewed 25 April 2014

Visited this restaurant on the spur of the moment and was surprised due to it's proximity to so many theatres to be virtually empty. Despite being only one of three couples/groups in the restaurant we had to resort to a big slow hand wave before we could get anyones attention. Another one to order... what's going on in this place? We thought Americans works hard in the service industry for tips for good service - not provide no service.
Fast losing interest in what we had originally wanted - we ended up ordering some basic fare and the speed the food came back at light speed. This was troubling. Like most diners - we like fast service but we also want the kitchen to spend extra time cooking everything well. The food was dissappointing. We paid and left to search out more substantial fare which we did within half a block. Recommend? Are you kidding? Avoid.
