I agree with previous reviews about this hotel being value for money. This is a budget hotel that tries hard and offers good prices. I would use it again if travelling alone. But I wouldn't take my wife or kid. Its a modestly large step up from a backpackers. If this had been more expensive it would have got a lower rating.
The good....1) price 2) location 3) service
The bad... 1) The decor (think tartan, paisley and old school elevator with brass double doors) 2) My room was too hot, the air conditioner worked but was too loud to sleep with it on and without earplugs.
The ok (but not great)...1) Shared bathroom was fine. Its literally a single bathroom there is more than one on each floor, and only a few rooms each floor. I never waited. I barely saw other guests. 2) The TV's were a bit temperamental.
The need to fix...1) the elevator smelled weird (chemical smell) 2) The cards to open your room kept demagnetizing meaning a trip back to reception. 3) The free wifi kept cutting out and making you sign back in.
All in all its a good pick for a budget NY holiday and you aren't going to be hanging at the hotel.
