This quirky, quintessential New York charmer is well located, clean, safe and week managed, an all round great choice to explore NYC and get a glimmer of what living here could be like. Near restaurants, subway and walking distance to just about everything. Shared bathrooms are clean-not air conditioned-and were either available when needed, or another could be found down a quick flight. Rooms were small, quiet, adequate. Only caveat, scary elevator-if you have claustrophobia issues ask for the 1st floor or take the stairs. WiFi was spotty. Neither are deal breakers. Budget travelers, book it!

Obviously, it is an older building, but it is extremely well kept and appealing. The location is convenient for just about anything in Manhatten. The only drawback was that there were only two shared bathrooms on our floor of what I believe was fourteen guest rooms. In three days, there was only one instance where I had to wait for a bathroom, so it wasn't that big of a deal. The TV was a little small and the window air conditioner was a little loud, but we weren't in the room that much. The wi-fi left much to be desired and there is no "lobby" that you can use to get away. The folks at the front desk were friendly. On top of all that, the nightly rate was one of the better ones that we could find. If you're looking for a luxury hotel, this isn't the one for you. But, if you're looking for a clean and well-kept place, with a good location and a good price, this may be the place for you.

Now that Hotel l7 the sister hotel of hotel 31 is not taking overnight guests, this
is the next best thing and it is GREAT, just as friendly, clean, lovely location
etcetc. And they apparnellty have room service! Idid not stay long enough to
try it, but at a reasonable price. You just can't beat this hotel for service,
location etc.

Room Tip: any room is fine.

Stayed at hotel 31 on a 6 day visit to New York City , loved it ! The deco was old fashioned but in cool retro way and I loved the old style elevator.
My friend was a bit worried as shared bathroom but there were 2 on our floor and we never clashed with anyone else and they were always kept clean.
Rooms are a bit small if you are sharing but it never bothered me as we were out more than in.
Staff were friendly and rooms cleaned every other day, if we needed an iron the reception brought this up to our room and we just left it outside our door to be collected.
Recommend this hotel as nice and pleasant and good location to subway and attractions.

Stayed at the hotel for 1 night, was a little apprehensive as it had shared bathrooms.

The room was very clean, good size and the bathroom was the same, for the price it was excellent.

The hotel is located just down the road from the Empire State Building. Excellent transport links.

My only complaint was the air conditioning, very loud so couldn't leave it on when I was in the room.

Overall for the price very good.
