“Excellent location, poor view”
Reviewed 30 June 2014

We were lucky that after a long and tiring intercontinental flight, arriving at the hotel at 8.30 and, inspite the usual check-in time being 3 p.m., we got our room immediately. Our room was situated above floor 20, everything was splendid: the comfortable furniture, the bed quality, the fine bed linen, the amenities and selection of towels in the bathroom, the excellent wi-fi (due to our reservation it was free of charge). The concièrge had always good information, the reception desk helpful, the fitness room well equipped and with good personnel, the elevator service excellent. The location is the best possible, the hotel has three entrances, on Streets 50 and 51 and Madison Av., just a block away from 5th Av or Park Av.
All this merits 5 stars, but I gave a qualification of only 4, because our room on such a high floor had a very poor view, mostly obstructed by a construction ladder. Also I found the newly renovated lounge and staircase too flashy and overburdened with decoration, I prefer a simpler form, but this is a question of taste. Last, but not least, we did not have breakfast at the hotel, as we prefer a European buffet type breakfast and the hotel only offers some selections, which we found less attractive and excessively priced, On the first morning we wanted to have our breakfast in the hotel, we were were seated and after waiting for more than 15 minutes for service, we left, as nobody came to take our order. So we never tried again..

Room Tip: Ask for an unobstructed view room

We arrived and doorman Don was exceedingly helpful assisting my two children and I. Unfortunately, the room was facing scaffolding and quite noisy. At over $500 p/night one may think these rooms would be deeply discounted. The room was short of spectacular. Location is awesome.

The hotel has been recently renovated from top to bottom. It is beautiful and the rooms are large, the beds are comfortable, there are lots of thirsty towels and everything works. I would have liked a hand held shower but they are hard to find. It would also be classy if they waived the $15 wi-fi fee.

Was staying here with my cousin the night before she was getting married. We ate at the restaurant which was nice, but with bad service.
The rooms are big for New York standards, and the beds very comfortable. The overall outline of the rooms is great and the hotel has a very private feel, however during this weekend Justin Bieber was apparently staying so lots of girls were just hanging around in the lobby. The location is ok depending on what you need, we were going to a church very close by so perfect. I would stay again, but think you can find better places for slightly cheaper prices.

Room Tip: Far from elevators, high up if you want the noise level down as lots of partying people...

We actually stayed here during some of their renovations last year (which was at first a concern), but even today my family talks about the fabulous hotel (we stayed in the towers). Their level of personal attention, thoughtfulness, and attention to detail (lemon ice water in the lobby in August, and Champagne on our arrival) are what make this an outstanding place to stay. Close to wonderful restaurants and NYC attractions are easily accessible (centrally located). Not to mention the beautiful rooms that are a peaceful retreat to return to after a day of sightseeing. The girls no longer ask to stay at the Plaza or Four Seasons - they only want to return to the New York Palace Hotel and Towers! Mom and Dad would have to agree!

Room Tip: The Tower rooms were large by NYC standards.

The size of the room was great! I liked the service...easy to get along with the staff...accommodating. This trip was a combination of business and family time with my daughter. We were there for 4 nights. I had several meals at the hotel which were less than impressive. The location is a perfect starting point depending on where it is that you're heading to. I would recommend.

We met friends in NYC and we both stayed in the Palace and were really pleased with the room, staff and the overall experience. The rooms are large and attractive and comfortable. Service was good and location is great. They have closed the restaurant except for breakfast but this is not a really a problem because there are lots of other places nearby.

Room Tip: Our room was on the 34th floor and was wonderful! As always, the higher the better.
