“Silk Stocking District”
Reviewed 17 April 2014

I have lived on the upper east side of Manhattan in a few locations. On East End Avenue you find a quiet walkway on the East River. Gracie Park with Gracie Mansion (The Mayor's Mansion) and Dog Runs as well as places to sit on the several benches provided on the river walk to get some sun.

“Loved this area - fantastic shopping if money is no object.”
Reviewed 12 February 2014

The shopping mecca of the top Brands in NYC if you have very, very, very deep pockets. Beautiful Window displays and browsing for those who do not have Donald Trump as a Daddy. Bling at it's glorious best for the brand consious.

“Worth a Stroll - or Several!”
Reviewed 11 January 2014

The Upper East Side is the section of Manhattan that is north of 59th Street - the level of Central Park - until about 100th Street; & east of Central Park. Those interested in architecture should tour the area with the architectural guidebook AIA GUIDE TO NEW YORK CITY. Perhaps the most interesting buildings are in the south-western section, close to the corner of Central Park. Also along 5th Avenue, along Central Park, are some very interesting buildings. The latter section is also known as "Museum Mile" - several great museums are here: the Frick Collection, the Neue Galerie, the Guggenheim Museum, the National Academy of Design, the the Cooper-Hewitt National Design Museum, the Jewish Museum, the Museum of the City of New York, & to crown it all, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, which would take a week or more to see thoroughly. Don't miss the medieval-style armory on Park Avenue between 66th & 67th Streets (1879), & the facade of the armory (that's all that remains) on Madison Avenue at 94th Street (1895). There are, by the way, several other, equally interesting armories scattered around Brooklyn, Queens & the Bronx. The avenues, especially Madison & Lexington, have a lot of shops & restaurants, even though this is a mostly residential district. The residents of the Upper East Side are considered older & more conservative than in the Upper West Side, with more children, & more liberal Jews; but in fact, there is little difference - both are worth several visits.

“Just WALK”
Reviewed 25 July 2013

Shopping, eating, museums, this area has it all. 5th Ave over to the River, go walk, discover and enjoy. The subway is easy to get to so there is no reason not to.

UES offers everything when you have money but also a good place to have your first city apartment. UES has the best consignment stores in Manhattan Period better than the village.
