In NY you say the village and people immediately assume you are speaking of Greenwich Village. But I am here to dispute that - the UES is home to some of the friendliest and smiliest people I have met in the entire tristate area.
In all my visits to the city before I've never gone that deep into the UES - but this time I decided to stay here and I am so glad I did.
Everyone is so unbelievably happy in the mornings and are always saying hello. The delightful tulips fill the streets in the spring adding a lovely colorful touch to your day. They are everywhere! In the building you notice everyone knows each other and puts lots of effort to stay in touch.
The general impression that UES-iders are snobby and out of touch cannot be further from the truth. The most down to earth people I met in the city were those shopping in the high end boutiques on Madison Avenue!
This place does give the (other) village a very serious run for its money. I know I will be staying here much more often in the future. I can't wait!
Things to do: shopping - museums - good food (particularly Jewish, Italian and Diners) - central park - more shopping - bakeries
