“Amateur Night at the Apollo”
Reviewed 25 July 2014

A place my family will never forget! Glad we had an opportunity to visit the Apollo. The Apollo Theater is located in Harlem and there is parking. I was worried about parking and the area the theater is in, and I was not going to go to the show, but I am happy that I did go. Arrived in the area early to find parking, we parked in a parking lot right behind the Apollo building. Bring cash for parking. The show was great, so much great talent and bad talent ;-)). The show lasted about 2 hours. Would definitely visit the Apollo again. If you are sitting in the top section, be prepared to walk up many stairs.

“Awesome Amater Night”
Reviewed 22 July 2014

I took my mother and 12 year old daughter to Amateur Night at the Apollo. We had a blast. They are very organized and even though the line was long (you better purchase tix in advance because they were sold out), we moved fairly quickly. The theater is beautiful and there isn't a single bad seat if you sit on the main level. We were to the left of the center and probably 10 rows back. Our seats were perfect! I cannot speak for the top-two tiers, but the main floor seats are awesome. This is an absolute must if you're in town!

“Amateur Night is a MUST”
Reviewed 19 July 2014

We travel from Australia for a month in NY every year and are always looking for new great things to do.
Last year we discovered Amateur Night @ Apollo and loved it so much we did it again on our trip this year (May-June).
Held every Wednesday night during the season (which seems to be quite long), tickets are easy to get online and reasonably priced given the level and quality of entertainment.
The host is brilliant - witty, funny and has excellent timing.
Kicking off with the kids is adorable; and on our second trip we experienced the most spine-tingling young man from Jersey sing his absolute heart out.

The variety of acts in the adult competition is great; never boring and nothing is drawn out longer than it needs to be.

Brilliant, genuine entertainment and I'll continue to go for as long as it's on. I'd love to be there for the finals one year!

9/10: recommend. MUST DO!

“Beautiful Historic Theater”
Reviewed 17 July 2014

We were lucky enough to get tickets to Pharrell Williams at the Apollo Theater for our first night in NYC. This was a highlight of our trip. It was nice to be in Harlem and see the beautiful historic theater from inside. And seeing Pharrell live on the Apollo stage was a huge bonus.

We went to Amateur Night on Wednesday. The price of admission was very reasonable. It was by far, THE best thing we did while in NYC! Before the show began, the DJ got the audience pumped up and a lot of us danced in the aisles. The host was absolutely hilarious!
Before Amateur Night started, Rising Stars, which consists of young people, performed. All three were talented and were really good. And there is NO booing allowed.
There were six acts - four of them were wonderful! One act got booed and the Executioner came out and escorted them off stage, and another singer did not sing too well.
In the end, a group of three dancers won the competition and it was well deserved.
I will say it again, we LOVED it! If you are in NYC on a Wednesday, don't pass up the opportunity to go to Amateur Night at the Apollo, you will not be disappointed.
