Had dinner at Rouge Tomate 7/31/14. My first time. I heard Rouge was closing 8/9/2014 so I had to go. Rouge did not disappoint. I had a crude with trout roe and dill, striped bass a la plancha and chocolate pudding cake with bananas and vanilla gelato. The food was great! Kudos to the executive chef and all the staff. This restaurant exemplifies what constitutes a great New York restaurant: great tasting and nutritious food, great personable staff, good ambiance and reasonable pricing. I do so hope this GEM finds a new home soon and is able to maintain great quality. Thank you for a gray evening!

We had the 5 course meal with wine pairings. Totally amazing. First of all I should say its probably one of the best values in NYC at $150pp for the chef's menu with wine. You get excellent courses and perfect wine pairings. Service was perfect. Food was among my top 5 in NYC. This should be rated higher. Go!

I hadn't been to Rouge Tomate for several months and went on my first night in NYC this week, and once I learned they were closing on August 9th I cancelled the following evening at a top rated restaurant (and tough reservation) and went 2 nights in a row. Both dinners were outstanding. They do farm to table as well as any restaurant. Appetizers of braised and grilled octopus, walu sashimi, the delectable 'toasts' mounded with blue crab/avocado/jalapeno or and heirloom tomatoes/burrata cheese, mains of scallops or sea bass, or duck or some of the best pastas ladden with vegetables and herbs were all 10's. The wine list is extensive and varied, so if you want French or west coast US wines the choices are expansive, and it has wines from off beat places like New York (some quite good), Lebanon, Vermont and believe it or not, Michigan (!). Other regions include solid selections from Austria, Hungary, Greece, Italy, Spain, Germany, Argentina/Chile and South Africa. It is a shame this restatruant is closing but they say they will open within the year in downtown, perhaps Chelsea. I sure hope so, this is a consistent restaurant with a very talented kitchen staff and food procurers.

We were 2 women in the restaurant and had great fun - everything was so tasty from the bread in the beginning till the sorbet desert . Very nice restaurant and great atmosphere - great music with good volume so people can also eat , listen to music , talk and hear the other. Very recommended!

Went on a chance reservation with older business friends, mid-week. We ordered the tasting menu. We skipped the restaurant wine pairings and ended up guessing at some of the wines. (the sommelier should pay attention to more than the people who speak French). That said, the wine list is extensive, inventive, and very reasonably priced.

Service is fine: attentive but not hovering. The entire wait staff knew the food, its preparation and what the chef was trying to accomplish with the various dishes. Well trained! Presentations were impeccable.

All of the food was, simply, exquisite. There was a lot of variety, and the plates were sized to satisfy ( and tempt for the next course!). Flavors, textures, everything worked in harmony.

We voted this in the top three restaurant meals of our lives. (One #1, two top 3's.)
