“Would definitely stay here again”
Reviewed 21 August 2011

Charming hotel with an excellent location...easy walking distance to theaters and Times Square. The room had very comfortable beds and a beautiful tiled bathroom. It was very hot in NY, but the room was comfortably cool. The service was excellent. They were friendly and very helpful. I will stay here again next time I am in NY.

Great location! Great service! Friendly, knowledgeable and professional staff. Clean, comfortable, nicely decorated rooms! Easy access to Times Square, theatres, and restaurants! We've stayed there 3 times and were happy every time. I look forward to our next stay at this lovely hotel! Not often am I compelled to write a review, but this place deserves acknowledgment for a job well done! Thank you, French Quarters staff, for your hospitality! :)

This tiny hotel is a gem. I've stayed here several times. After living in New York for years, I consider it my new NYC home. The rooms are adorable-- exposed brick, toile curtains, amenities from L'Occitane en Provence, comfy pillow-top beds-- and the staff is polite and very accommodating. It's a bit of a walk from the subway, but for a personal hotel experience in New York, it's worth it. The area is rather touristic, and the street is a bit loud-- full of restaurants-- and from its exterior, the hotel looks like a tourist trap, but inside it is quiet, peaceful. It is really a sheer delight.

Expensive for its size, but what you get for your cash is an awesome location on restaurant row (46th street between 8th and 9th), clean rooms, and exceptional service. Colin, the manager, was extremely accommodating, going out of his way to be helpful. We felt like "friends of the family". Nitpicks: It's quicker to take the stairs than the elevator, the complimentary breakfasts are passable at best, and the affiliated parking garage will indeed, as I was warned, try to overcharge you, and call you a "wheeler and dealer" (but not argue too much and proceed to "check his math") if you insist on paying the correct price. Small potatoes; we were very happy with our entire stay and would definitely return.

We just returned from 3 nights at The French Quarters. The accommodations are outstanding: beautiful rooms, comfortable beds, wonderful linens, friendly hotel staff. The location is great - within easy walk of great restaurants, deli/grocery, theatre and not too far from the Times Square subway stop. They do have a major problem with the continental breakfast that is included in the rate. They ran out of plates, butter for toast, coffee cups, milk and served 5 day old bagels (we know because it was the 9th of the month and the bagels had a tag for the 4th of the month) - for which there is no excuse in New York City. I shared this directly with the reception desk and hope they will attend to this.

This hotel is clean and has large rooms in NY terms, BUT when the temperature reaches the 90s you want to be able to control the temperature from your own room. Not here - management controls it! And the breakfast is terrible, I am not sure why they bother serving it. But the rooms are large and comfortable and clean, your decision...

We stayed four nights at the French Quarters Guest Apartments over Eastern, and had a rather pleasant stay.

The best thing with the hotel is its location, right on the Restaurant Row. After long days of exploring NYC, it is conveniently located for easily stepping out for a dinner to any of the restaurants on the same street or around the block.

The King room we had (#207) was exactly as the pictures on the homepage. It was very clean, spacious enough, and the bed was amazing. Although facing the Restaurant Row, it wasn’t at all as noisy as I thought it might be. Both my husband and I slept well. This room though is not for somebody who cannot manage steep stairs, as it is located in the Townhouse building, without elevator (see attached pictures).

The reason I am not giving this hotel the best ratings, is mainly due to their poor service. The receptionist wasn’t particularly friendly upon arrival or when leaving, and the breakfast personnel was everything but service-minded (one lady was actually quite rude). A smile and a friendly clause would have done much!

Also when we arrived after a long overseas trip, it took them a long time to bring us the in-room drinks we ordered. We called back more than an hour later to see if they forgot about it (which they probably had). During our stay, the bar personnel also managed to invoice us incorrectly twice.

On top of it all, the last morning of our stay, there was a Chinese family suddenly entering our room, whilst we were still in bed. Apparently the reception didn’t know we were still there...

Concerning the breakfast, it was very basic. Moreover, every morning we went there, they were out of either croissants, yoghurt, bananas or the coffee.

Irrespective of the fuss we encountered, the hotel felt safe, and it had an interesting interior design and look to it.

A nice touch in the hotel was a kind-of “daily programme”, which they stuck under the door early every morning. This leaflet had information about daily events, theatres and weather.

To summarise: The plusses were the actual room and the location, and the minuses the poor service and breakfast.
