Excellent free trip. We went across, got off and straight back on again. Great views and definitely worth a trip.

We went mid morning and returned mid afternoon so no huge queues, mind you it was in May. Just wanted the experience at first until I researched the Island and found out lots of museums, BUT check opening times.

Never gave it another thought and then decided to go to Lower Manhattan during the Memorial Day weekend.
Took a ride to Staten Island Terminal, parked for $8.00 for the whole day, boarded the ferry....
(they run every 30 mins and more oftern during weekeday rush hour and of course the ride is FREE!!!)….
roughly 30 minutes later was disembarking right by the Battery Park … the ride itself quite pleasant, looking over all the landmarks and passing very close to the Lady Liberty!....

No problems returning back and a pleasant ride home (I live in the NE Suburb of Philadelphia)
. I can only imagine the otherwise headaches I would've had between driving into, getting out of and parking in Lower Manhattan. This made it into an extremely l=pleasant experience

Thank CWBuff

There were 5 of us. Buying our tickets was easy. The line was long to get in but it went fairly fast. The point of security took a little longer because it is similar to airport security but knowing they are keeping you safe, makes up for the time it takes. Then you go to the place to get on the ferry. Do not stand in a single line....they want all the space to be used up. This helped us be one of the first few on the ferry since we walked right up to the gate since there is no single file lines.
The ferry had three levels. There is food available to buy on the ferry. The bottom level is good for shade but the top is best for views of the city. The ferry got to Staten Island and Ellis Island in good amount of time. You can stay on the ferry and just look at the islands or you can get off, walk around and then get back on another ferry. This place is a def for people new to New York. Adults were $18.50, kids $9, seniors $9 and they had student prices but you had to have your student ID. I took a picture of the Statue of Liberty from the top of the ferry.

When boarding from Manhattan, jump on the right side and grab a rail position STAT! This is the best way to see the Statue of Liberty. We chose to watch the opposite side on the way home which gives you a nice view of Brooklyn and is a bit quieter than the Liberty side.

Very easy to find, just follow the crowds of people :)
