T visit his was the 3rd to Marea
This time with another couple.
The tasting menu with the wine
Pairing is the way to go.
Presentation and attention to service I understand is what makes us return. The sommelier
Trully enjoys his job and takes his time presenting each wine
When served.
Must mention that we were
Late to our reservation but when we arrived we were greeted so gracefully , They
Know their business.
Congrats to all at Marea

“" Beautiful people "”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 2 May 2014

My husband and I had a delightful and delicious dining experience at Marea . The menu was interesting and varied . The service is outstanding . The guests seemed to be a mix of couples and business people . It's obviously a trendy place to dine . The restaurant is very lively so not the best choice for quiet , romantic dining . Our waiter , Carlos H , helped to make our evening so enjoyable .

“Good but expensive”

Very good restaurant, must have a reservation to get in. Personally I think the dishes are overpriced, the quality is very good but not exceptional. I would think it twice before returning.

This is what we are all looking for: warm, professional and exceptionally competent service, artistic, elegant ambience, simple and fresh food marvelously prepared. It was perfect.

“Excellent food, poor service. ”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 26 April 2014 via mobile

My husband & I have talked about going to Marea many times, but since you need to make a reservation so far in advance we kept missing an opportunity. We decided to dine there this Friday evening for our wedding anniversary. The food overall was excellent.
I should start by saying we called to say we were arriving late and they were very gracious and held our table. The restaurant was packed and much more noisy than we had anticipated, so romantic is certainly not a word I would use to describe it, it's actually rather bright inside and probably better for dinner with friends. It's missing a certain elegance and perhaps that can be accredited to the waiter we had. He was hardly friendly and barely acknowledged our existence, he never came to check on us, he just did his job and scurried away. I could barely get someone's attention to get me a piece of bread, let alone ask us if the food was prepared to our liking. The service really just misses the mark for a place with such high acclaim and price tag. The sommelier was knowledgable and our wine selection was to our liking, and they were very prompt to fill our glasses.
On another happy note the appetizers and entrees were delicious, the buratta and lobster appetizer were truly memorable. The desserts on the other hand were underwhelming, we had the pistachio gelato and doughnuts which were more savory than sweet and just weren't decadent, but the selection was limited.
So in the grand scheme of NYC dining experiences, go if you aren't looking for romance or the best service. Despite the food the experience somehow just comes up short.
