“Get the early rate for great value”
Reviewed 4 November 2013

We stayed here for a weekend where we saw a Broadway a show. Came Friday, left Monday. The rooms are small and sparse. You should expect that. Room noise is also a problem.
However, the staff were friendly and attentive during the visit. The location was near the 6 train and other things to do, including many restaurants.
There were no issues during our stay that were unexpected.
We booked three months in advance on their website, where they offered a special rate that was $50 less expensive than other hotels on Manhattan and in the neighborhood. That rate was able to be canceled up to 14 days in advance. I would take advantage of this staying here, as there are hotels that offer more at a comparable rate. But at a cheaper price, this is well worth it.

Stayed at The Mave at the end of a wonderful tour around New England, we had 4 nights in the hotel and first impressions was very good. The reception is trendy, smart and the service was friendly and welcoming.

We did not expect a big room by any means but the room we were in was tiny, a real squeeze with our suitcases, we were facing a brick wall with no natural light which made it feel even smaller. My husband had to climb over my feet in the night when he needed to use the bathroom due to the bed positioned against the wall and desk squeezed in at the end of the bed. The room was stuffy and just not very comfortable for a four night stay and this with the noise (clearly lacks double glaze), it just meant we did not have a good nights sleep. Such a shame because the furniture and look of the room and the wet room was all very modern, nice a clean and aesthetically pleasing.

We were on the 9th floor (907) an end of corridor room (standard room), and it would appear the end of corridor rooms were the smallest of the standard rooms so would avoid if at all possible, particularly if your staying for more than a night.

The Wfi was free and good reception, the fitness room on the 12th floor was just not worth having..one runner, one bike and a few weights, just little point in it really. Everything just felt cramped.

The Urban cont breakfast was very oddly served n the lobby which seemed an inappropriate place and was just muffins and coffee, so we just had breakfast elsewhere during our stay.

The Hotel was in a brilliant location and was very clean, modern and reception staff were friendly and helpful.

Room Tip: Do not have an end of corridor room if your there for more than one night....just ridiculously cramp...

Nice hotel. We stayed for 6 nights in a Madison Queen room. The room was a bit small, but it worked out fine as there was enough storage space. The hotel has free wifi which is great, very comfortable beds, a great location in the Flatiron District close to Empire State Building. The staff is also very friendly and helpful.

We had a room on the second floor so there was quite a lot of noise from the street. We asked for a room higher up in the building, but it was fully booked. To help on the problem we got ear plugs from the staff and it helped us to get better sleep. Although the room was perfectly clean on arrival we thought that the cleaning during the stay could have been a little better (for instance vacuum cleaning every second day and also change the linens during a 6 days stay.

The hotel offers a breakfast, but it is just pastries and coffee. You can get a nice breakfast at Essen across the street. It would be nice for the Mave to fix a breakfast deal with them.

Room Tip: Get rooms that are higher up in the building. Less noise from the street.

We stayed here over a weekend in early October and overall enjoyed our stay!

Location:
We were very happy with where the hotel was located! It was easy to walk or take the subway to any of the attractions on Manhattan. I found no fault with its location, so you can mark that concern off you list.

The Rooms:
As have been noted by other reviewers, the rooms are small, but make great use of space and are well appointed like the rest of the hotel. The rooms don't feel cramped, are very clean, the beds are very comfortable and there is plenty of room to store clothing. There is a wall air conditioner that seems to work very well, but then again, when we were there when it wasn't very warm. Expect some noise from the street below. Unfortunately, while we were there, the city decided to tear up the street next to the hotel for one entire night. The amount of noise pollution this created was comically ridiculous. The other nights were peaceful in comparison, but earplugs were necessary for a light sleeper such as myself.

Service:
The hotel staff were always courteous, greeting us as we came and went. They were happy to answer questions about the points of interest around the hotel including restaurant recommendations. At the end of the stay, they gladly helped make transportation arrangements for us back to the airport.

Amenities:
This hotel is a base to be used for sleeping, and it serves that basic purpose well. While it has a workout room with a small treadmill and some other very basic equipment, don't expect much. Also, please note that the morning 'breakfast' is a selection of pastries. I ate a croissant one morning, but ended up crossing the street to a great store/restaurant named Essen for something that would power me for a little longer. It had reasonable prices on high quality food items that you pick out buffet style. It works as a good substitute for the lacking 'breakfast' supplied by the hotel. If the hotel supplied some yogurt or cereal it would have been ok, but since they don't, plan on crossing the street and going to Essen.

Conclusion:
I can easily recommend this hotel to anyone seeking a clean, comfortable room in an excellent location. Just bring earplugs (if you are a light sleeper) and don't count on the 'breakfast' they supply to actually fulfill that purpose. Have fun and enjoy your stay!

Fab hotel for a New York City break!
Excellent use of space, rooms aren't big but there is plenty of storage/hanging space
We asked for a high floor and got room 802 on the 8th floor which we were happy with, there are 12 floors in total
You can see the Empire State Building and Flatiron building within 5mins of leaving the hotel on foot
Broadway/Times Square both easily walkable. Close to hop on hop off bus stop
All rooms are 'street view' and we used the air con unit to drown out the inevitable traffic noise and slept really well
Shower sometimes took a while to warm up (it was always fine in a morning, but took a bit of warming up in the evening)
Bathroom was modern and stylish, lovely big walk in shower
Lovely big comfortable bed in our king room
Safety deposit box comes in very useful for valuables
Staff pleasant and helpful

This is a boutique hotel, so expect the same in service and quality. Very personable, chances are you'll see your "neighbours". I was on the second floor and was very pleased with what I embarked on. Small room, almost dorm-like, yet chic enough. The lining was clean, and so was the shower. It was a quiet experience as I never heard any loud noises etc. it's like your bedroom, away from home. You'll adjust quickly if your accustomed to fancy. This hotel is fancy, but in its own quaint way. It was probably an apartment building turned hotel. I enjoyed my stay, (it was 3 nights). If it was a week trip, I probably would have needed a bit more space, but it was just enough!! I was sharing with another person also.

If I had to go back to NY for another short trip, this would be my hotel of choice. Location is great, and the price is right!!

Room Tip: Ask for the lowest floor available.

Stayed at the Mave late September 2013, as a couple, and had a very good general impression.

The room is not very big, but was comfortable enough for two people + suitcases and the occasional shopping bags. Superking bed, nice, comfortable sheets. Street was a little noisy even though I was on the 8th floor, which was annoying.
Bathroom is spacious, but lacked room to accommodate day-to-day personal hygiene items for two people.
Breakfast... don't count on it. Few items, in a cramped room in the top floor.

Overall is a very modern looking and comfortable hotel, with GREAT location, close to two/three different subway lines, but could use minor touches, like soundproof windows, a shelf in the bathroom and better breakfast. A very good value if you are on vacation and doesn't plan on staying in much.
