This hotel was a typical Hampton Inn...basic and clean. It's in a very good location...only 3 blocks to the 42nd St subway station. Hotel staff were friendly and accommodating. I would definitely stay here again.

This is a really nice hotel. Very clean, great hot breakfast, and friendly and helpful staff. Good price for being so close to Times Square. The elevators are small and do take some time getting on one. Rooms are small but adequate. Towels and sheets were new and crisp.

We stayed at the Hampton Inn/Times Square South in April 2014. It was clean and comfortable, but very, very busy. The two elevators are not enough to keep up with morning traffic, and the breakfast was so crowded that a line formed 10 people deep waiting for the staff to refill hot water, eggs, coffee, everything. You can combat this, of course, by arriving at breakfast quite early. Great location, friendly staff. We typically retire to our room mid-afternoon to rest, change clothes, and regroup before our dinner and evening adventures. On all three days our room was the absolute last one on the hall to be serviced -- and so we had to skip it altogether in order to get in our rest period. I'm sure we could have asked for service earlier or later if it was super important to us.

Room Tip: Ask to be mid-hallway for earlier service on towels, bed making.

This hotel has an amazing location for sight seeing. It is right off of 8th Avenue and 39th Street. About a block and a half from the 42nd Street Port Authority Subway Stop/Bus Terminal. It is also a short walk to pretty much any Broadway show as well as Times Square. Really there is no better location for sight seeing in New York City. The hotel itself is extremely tall like all the other reviews stated. There are only 6 rooms per floor and it is 32 floors. We had room number 01 on the floor and I could hear the elevator all night. Every time it stopped I could hear it beep. I realized after a couple nights I could hear it stop on the floors below and above us as well. Although the people on our floor were pretty quiet one night they did wake us up. If the people in the room next to us were talking at normal voices I could hear them. The walls are extremely thin. I would hate to have a floor with the Ice Machine on it. Those machines were extremely loud when getting ice. The only other negative was the size of the rooms. They are extremely small for American standards. Not a huge issue but our room had two queen beds (I thought they might have been full) and we didn't have any room for our suit cases except in-between the beds.
The staff was helpful. They always seemed busy though so when we did have questions they weren't overly accessible. The one time we needed help from the concierge he was pretty rude though and I was waiting at the stand while he was walking around talking to staff and cleaning up the lobby. He looked at me multiple times and just ignored me. Okayyy. The cookies in the evenings were delicious. Delicious! I wish I could have made sure to be there every evening to get one.
Breakfast every morning was standard Hampton Inn breakfast. Usually Sausage or Bacon and Omlettes, eggs or something similar. One morning they had Biscuits, Gravy, Sausage and Scrambled Eggs. Day was made! Also I love the Waffles. Always one of my favorites. They always have Yogurt, Warm Fresh Oatmeal, Toast, Bread, Bagels etc, pastries, and other items. It is a pretty good spread included. Not just a continental breakfast.
I would probably stay here again for the simple fact that it is a very clean, nice hotel with decent staff and in a great location. Price is affordable for NYC. I wish the walls were a bit thicker and the staff was a bit more accessible.

Room Tip: Ask for a room away from the elevators, on a floor without an ice maker.

Great hotel: not too fancy but very comfortable with nice staff always respectful and helpful.
The bedroom is not very big but that's not easy to find in NYC anyway - especially for that price. We booked a King Size with City View so we were up on 21st floor. 6 rooms per floor so quiet environnement (although for someone from the country, the noise of the city was still too much - ear-plugs do nicely). Comfy bed although sheets and bed covers only OK (a few stains even though you can tell it's clean). No bed-bugs.
Two elevators only so can get a bit busy around breakfast time but that's not too much of a trouble really. Breakfast had plenty to offer and quite good. Possibility of printing vouchers or e-tickets in "business center" (actually a small room with 2 computers). In room: safe, hair-dryer, ironing board + iron.
Ideal location next to Port Authority Bus Terminal (round the corner) and a 10min walk to Times Square so the subway is really close and gives access to whole of Manhattan (lots of different lines available). Lots of restaurants around obviously but 39th street is rather quiet there.
Thanks to the staff for their help and smiles. Will probably choose Hampton inn Manhattan Times Square South again if we come back to NYC.

Excellent location (39th Street between the 8th and 9th Avenues), close to Port Authority Bus Terminal and Times Square. I had a very QUIET room on the 12th floor (didn't hear anyone day or night). The room was very clean and comfortable, with plenty of space. The wireless Internet in the room was free and connection was excellent. Breakfast was surprisingly good and slightly different each day, with an unexpected variety (hot and cold options, cereals and sweets, fruit, bagel, juice, even waffle). Overall, I was very, very satisfied, and the hotel felt like an oasis of peace in the madness of Manhattan.

We stayed here for one night. The hotel is in a nice location. The rooms are extremely tiny, so if you have never stayed in NYC this could be a shocker! The staff was very nice and the breakfast was done well.
