Firstly, although it has taken me a year to write this review, this is not an indication of the lack of an impression the Distrikt Hotel made on me. Rather, it is testament to the huge impression it really did leave on my wife and I that I'm back to write the review 12 months later!

My wife and I stayed at the Distrikt Hotel for a week back in March 2012 when we visited New York on Honeymoon. Paramount to us was location, cleanliness and a hotel with an element of modernity - the Distrikt provided all of that and more. Location is everything in NYC: The hotel is a short walk from one of the main thoroughfares, Broadway, and, of course, Times Square itself. Not to mention that attractions such as Central Park and Greenwich Village are 20-30 minutes walk away, should the mood take you. For those who'd rather take the subway, you'll find a station just a few minutes walk away and you can be anywhere in Manhattan within minutes. The only very minor negative with the location is the street itself - whilst it's not the worst by any stretch of the imagination, given it's proximity to the bus terminal, there can be some 'undesirables' hanging about in the immediate locale. I suppose this is like any city in the world mind you.

The accommodation was first class: Rooms are clean, contemporary, well decorated and well appointed. The personal touches in the room were even more impressive. Every day the staff left a NY Times (or similar?), the weather forecast for the following day and some chocolates in our room. Very nice. I can't comment extensively on other facilities as we only used the restaurant/bar on a couple of occasions, there's just so much to see in the city, but what we did see of the facilities was more than adequate. I do remember having a fantastic bit of brunch though!

The staff were exceptional. Always extremely polite, helpful and seemingly very genuine. They always seemed interested in what we had planned for the day ahead too and were very knowledgeable.

We fell in love with New York City during our Honeymoon and will definitely consider the Distrikt Hotel when we do inevitably return!

When arrving at the hotel from JFK we knew our honeymoon was going to be perfect: the excellent service at the front desk, the cupcakes they lefy in our room, the comfortable bed, the ipod dock, the unexpected views (the Empire State Building), everything!! We have recommended the Distrikt many times and nobody was disappointed. We hope to return in the near future with our daughter.

Room Tip: Our room was facing the back street, so it was very quiet and had a view of the Empire State Buildin...

Distrikt Hotel for us was perfect! This was our first time to New York and in terms of location, value for money, room size, facilities, comfort - amazing!
The Port Authority Bus Terminal is literally across the street, which means you have immediate access to bus, subway etc.
At the top of the street are pubs, restaurants, chemist, convenience store.
I loved that they had Iced Tea out in the lobby during the day that you could enjoy after walking for hours! And in the morning they'd have tea and coffee. They had 2 mac computers in the lobby that were free of charge for guests to use. This was really handy for booking tickets, uploading photos, quick emails etc.
Each night they would turn down your bed and leave a chocolate and the weather forecast. It was these little things that made our stay so much more pleasant.
My one criticism was I felt their breakfast menu was a little exy - but let's face it, why eat there when you have so many other restaurants within a stone's throw!?
The room itself was beautifully decorated and I felt had everything you needed. It wasn't huge, but after seeing rooms that my friends have stayed in in NYC, our room would be considered huge! The bed and pillows were AMAZING! I loved looking out our window and just at the top of the street being able to see the hustle and bustle and hear some of the street noises. It reminded me that it really was the city that doesn't sleep! However, the curtains were these insane block out ones that once drawn, you'd have no idea if it was daytime outside. These came in handy to battle jetlag.
All staff we dealt with were wonderful and so very patient with 2 people that had little to no idea about NYC. Particularly the lobby staff - they were always on hand to give out directions, tips and hints to us.
It was such a great experience for us, I have recommended it to all my friends who have travelled to NYC and they too have enjoyed it.
I have no hesitations in recommending this as a great place to stay, particularly for those who have never been to NYC and are looking for an easy hotel to get around from.
Thank-you Distrikt!

On 40th Street across the street from the Port Authority central bus station,
This skinny little hotel offers up a ton for your buck.
Its earthy modern style make it very approachable.
The staff is great, for one reason. - They care about you, the client.

The front desk is genuinely interested in what is making your day good..
Actually having time to listen and replying with an insightful reply...
I don't get to see that much of that kind of hospitality in America, especially not NY..
Numerous percentage of the guests are Euros - Which may have something to do with that.

Beyond that, the rooms are a little bigger than the usual "NY small" size, but the bathroom is well thought out and the shower seems almost large.
The Hotel is 2 short blocks from the A,C or E, train and 2 long blocks over to 7th Avenue for the 1,2,3 trains.
You can easily get anywhere in Manhattan from this hotel via the subway.

They have storage rooms for your luggage to accommodate your departure flights etc..

Also, they do have a little bistro on the back of main floor for breakfast and drinks in the evening...
There are no windows in the restaurant, leaving the room feel like being in a basement.
Although the food is acceptable - its nothing exceptional and the attitude and quality of the servers here are on the opposite end good...
A quick breakfast is actually is closer to over an hour..
New management in the restaurant are clearly needed.
But this would not keep me from staying here, being that there are so many other excellent, close eating options available...
Just don't pay extra some sort of meal package..

Go enjoy your stay for a reasonable rate in NY,NY!!

Thank you for sharing your experience with us. We've very glad that you had a wonderful stay, overall. We appreciate your feedback regarding the restaurant. Here is a response from our Restaurant Manager, Rachel: "On behalf of the Collage Bistro, I would like to apologize for your less than enjoyable experience dining with us. We know we have limited options in regard to the physical makeup of the restaurant, but work with the space we have to try to create a pleasant environment for our guests. We are currently in the process of revamping the restaurant and striving for positive changes to come. In the moment, we are training new staff and reconstructing past standards so that we may meet a higher level of excellence and customer service. I appreciate your taking the time to provide us with the feedback we require to reach these goals as soon as possible." Thank you again and please stay in touch with us. We very much look forward to welcoming you again in the near future.

All amenities were nice and the service was top notch. But these rooms are as small as hotels in Europe. There was some cleaning chemical that they used in the bathroom that gave me a bit of allergic reaction but that is no fault of theirs. Beds were comfy and once again the staff was very friendly and knowledgable. Location is within walking distance to Time Square. Prices were not to bad for NYC.
