“This Hotel is simply excellent”
Reviewed 18 March 2013

It's not often that you get to stay in a top 5 (tripadvisor) hotel without it costing the earth, especially in NYC. The Distrikt is first and foremost exceptional value when you consider that the rooms, we had one on the 28th floor (room 03) and the view of the Empire state was excellent, are very well appointed and fairly spacious (bathrooms are very nice). In addition the staff are all really friendly (and genuinely so). Often it's the case that the staff in a hotel come across as insincere but every one of them, including the bellhops, were genuinely interested in helping you out, and with a smile. They even got a load of mini chocolate muffins in for guests for St Paddy's day. The breakfast isn't bad either for the money. Final tick in the box is the location which is brilliant, very central for all the sights. For food/drinks, check out the Beer Authority which is 2 mins walk back towards 8th avenue for great beer (and variety-belgium etc) and food-Paddys day was excellent, and also the Heartlands Brewery which has an "outlet" (as there are a few around town) right next to the entrance of the Port Authority Bus Terminal, which also of course is where you end up if you chose to take the subway option from JFK. We did and it wasn't half as scary as we thought it would be plus, both ways it saved us a total of about £100 in cab fares. All in all a brilliant hotel, with excellent staff and a fabulous location. Would absolutely recommend that you book.

Room Tip: Ask for a high floor room

I surprised my partner with a trip to NYC and chose the Distrikt because of these reviews. It did not disappoint. I emailed the hotel in advance to ask for champagne in the room when we arrived, they went to the trouble of hand writing a message sent from me with the champagne and a few other surprises, courtesy of the hotel, arrived as we were unpacking! The rooms are modern and larger than I expected, having stayed in London hotels several times I expected to be in the usual big city box room. It's location is amazing, Hell's Kitchen one way, Times Square the other, 5 minutes from Central Park. All in all this hotel is spot on, they treated us like royalty from the moment we stepped through the door. I will definitely be booking here for our next stay in the city.

I truly loved pretty much everything about this hotel. The room was modern and extremely clean. The bathroom was amazing. Although it was small it was very modern and clean. The service was impeccable. The bartender at the restaurant was truly great and you felt special from the moment I stepped in the door. They had a car waiting for me to take me to the airport and if was only like $10 more than trying to hail a taxi. 5 star treatment and service from start to finish!

Well it's true what they say - this is a fantastic hotel with incredibly friendly staff! We stayed a week here in February and from check-in onwards, there was always a friendly hello and help when we needed. Compared to what we've heard of other hotels, Distrikt is really reasonable in price too.

This holiday celebrated my birthday and as pre-arranged by my boyfriend, there was a yummy treat waiting in my room from the hotel staff. Such a nice start to the week!

The hotel's location is great - right near Times Square. Many areas and sights (Madison Square Garden, The High Line, Central Park, Rockefeller Center etc) are easily walkable and for everywhere else, the subway is just down the street.

As for the hotel itself, we couldn't fault it. Our room (floor 24) had views to Empire State Building and the Hudson River. The bed was comfy, the room was quiet (only a few rooms per floor) and we had plenty of room for suitcases etc. I also loved the Keurig coffee maker and now want to get a coffee pod machine for home haha! The TV was big and plenty of channels for winding down after a long/busy day! Free wifi was awesome too, made keeping in touch with family and friends in Oz really simple!

Some sights/experiences we loved in NYC:
- SHOPPING - just about everywhere! Made a few trips to Fifth Avenue and also, Century 21 downtown was great for menswear in particular.
- Watching the NY Knicks play at Madison Square Garden (we got our tickets on stubhub).
- Getting the C subway train to High Street station in Brooklyn and walking back to Manhattan over the Brooklyn Bridge.
- Top of The Rock - we were up in about 15-20 minutes (including some interesting videos they show) and had spectacular views!
- Walking up Bleecker Street in Greenwich Village, stopping at Magnolia Bakery, checking out the nearby Chelsea Market and then walking the High Line up to 30th Street.
- Seeing Jersey Boys on Broadway ($70 for great seats from TKTS in Times Square).

A tip - if you find yourself needing extra luggage during your trip like we did, the nearby Walgreens in Times Square stocks really big duffel bags for about $30.

We had a king view room above the 30th floor and had magnificent views towards Times Square. The location was good and bad, while it was close to everything the street the hotel is on was not the greatest, never felt unsafe etc, just there are far nicer streets around.
The staff were wonderful and the Collage bar/restaurant, became our favorite little haunt during our stay.

All the great things about the hotel and staff definitely made up for the street.

Ps, Hope everyone is good after the nasty storms and floods :-)

Room Tip: Get a King room for a great view

The room are too small. There was no refrigerator in the room. No vendor machine to get water (I had to walk outside at midnight). Attendants were very helpful and kind. Seems to be secure (you do need to use your room key to use elevators). The walls are to thin and you can hear noises from other rooms.

Thank you for your review of Distrikt. We wish we could have made a bigger impact on your stay, but your chosen room, the Standard Queen, is our coziest and the only room type without minibars. That said, we do provide mini refrigerators upon request and a team member would have been more than pleased to deliver water upon request. We do hope you will give us another chance in the future, please let us know if you do so you can experience our larger king bedded rooms.

Have no worries about booking this hotel. Great service, great room, great location. I will definitely book again.
free hot apple cider was very welcome as the rather was very cold.
Only thing was that the Hotel bar prices were horrendous.

Room Tip: Ask for a high floor.

The hot apple cider is addictive indeed! We will soon be switching over to our also popular complimentary iced teas for the warmer weather. We're very happy to hear that you had an "excellent" stay and that you enjoyed the service, your room, and location. Our Collage Bar & Bistro is a great option if you want to grab a quick drink/bite before or after your long day of exploring the City, so thank you for stopping by at Collage. Please keep in touch with us and we very much look forward to welcoming you again in the near future!
