Harlem Bed and Breakfast
Ranked #50 of 79 New York City B&B and Inns
Reviewed 25 January 2013

Everything about this B & B is just right. Availability of rooms and room size, price, comfort, accommodations for arrival, payment, and departure, staff, owner, and breakfast croissants. I stay there as often as possible because of family, neighborhood, transit accessibility, and affordability. Great place.

I have absolutely nothing negative to say about this B and B. it's cheap compared to about ridiculously pricey, not too good, low standard, i wanna feel like a four star hotels in NYC. it is five short blocks from the subway station. The staff are friendly and the hotel is quirky clean, you can actually smell the cleanliness in the air. Also available is a wide range of breakfast options. Great hotel for a quick visit to NYC. I highly recommend this hotel and will definitely stay here over and over.

I would not only recommend the Harlem B&B but I hope we get to go back! The building a classic NYC brownstone and is situated on a residential street just of Malcolm X Way and around the corner from the lovely Marcus Garvey Park. It felt perfectly safe for a city like NYC. It was located a few blocks from the subway so we had no trouble getting around. But be warned the room, at least ours, was so narrow that my long armed husband could touch each wall. Still some how the room had everything we needed even a fridge, sink and stove (no oven). Every morning the staff arranged a breakfast of fresh delivered bakery selections set about with yogurt and cheeses. Of course there was Kurig coffee at any time. Oh, and the best part! The place was super surprisingly clean.

Room Tip: We didn't care about a pool or a gym so the above rating should not been seen as a criticism.

This wasn't bad. However, we suggest paying a bit more and getting a lot more further downtown. The location was a bit far away from the attractions but the subway station was close enough. It did make it a hassle to get changed from tourist clothes to more formal attire for dinner and drinks. The breakfast was good enough. It was great to grab and run out the door with. Cleaners were fantastic and the people manning the place were very polite. You are not going to get ripped off here and if you plan on being out most of the time like we were, it will be satisfactory.

There was free Wi-Fi, and overall the room was decent, relatively clean minus the kitchen utensils and a small spider crawling in the tub. However the whole area felt a little unsafe
at night (we were randomly threatened by an individual upon arriving nearby the bed & breakfast). I would recommend them putting metal bars/gates covering the windows on the first floor for reassurance of safety as many other apartment/houses in Harlem seem to have these metal bars on their windows (on lower floors) as well. The linen and pillows leave little to be desired, you might want to bring your own pillowcase. On a positive note, the subway is within walking distance, and breakfast included croissants, which were quite good.

This small B&B in Harlem doesn't break the bank. I agree with other reviews that this was more like a hostel than a bed and breakfast, but it is much nicer than other comparably priced hotels in the city. It's clean, easy to get to, the staff are friendly, and the rooms sufficient. Ours even came with a kitchenette.

Room Tip: Don't stay in a room that faces the street. Traffic can be noisy.
